I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

But if they say it was a bomb, then that's what we have to go on.

I'm only shocked that it's taken this long to admit what they've likely known for a very long time.

If it was a bomb why has no group claimed responsibility?

There was no way Airbus was going to let it be an accident. They've covered up several accidents over the years, so I'm not surprised they found explosive residue.

It's not like Airbus doesn't have an in at court, is it?

Naah, they'd never attempt to defraud, would they?

Ok my curiosity is piqued. I don't anywhere near the level of comprehensive knowledge on this topic. What are some accidents that Airbus has covered up over the years?

Not to answer for Zaph, since he knows more about this stuff than I...

But here's one such accusation that concerns Airbus...it's not the Egyptian air, it's the crash off Brazil.

Here.

The most famous was an A310 in the 80s. He made a couple passes at an airshow. On the last pass he came by low, and slow with the gear down, flew into the trees at the end of the runway and crashed, killing something like 22 people.

The preliminary report was that the pilot pushed the throttle forward to full power, and the computer left the power low, like it was landing. A few months later, the report was that the pilot was hot dogging it and screwed up, and he was on trial for manslaughter, and was eventually convicted and sent to jail.

It is a great deal if a bomb was brought on board in France.

Way to put words in people's mouths and read far more into it than people actually said. If Boeing was in the same position they'd do the same thing, and at times Boeing has tried to cover up things with their aircraft. There's a big difference between their aircraft and their management and decisions.

Forensic specialists in September said that traces of explosives were found in some passenger remains, but that report was never corroborated. The technical investigation committee has referred the investigation to the public prosecutor.

The investigation drags on.

The French are citing poor maintenance on the aircraft, which had significant issues on its previous four flights before crashing, and are questioning if the mechanic that serviced the aircraft in Paris was qualified by European standards. Egypt contends it was a bomb.

According to the French decode of the data recorders a fire started in the forward lavatory or the avionics bay and spread to the cabin, forcing passengers to the rear of the aircraft. They heard what they believe to be a high pressure oxygen leak in the cockpit before the captain said there was a fire. The aircraft had undergone maintenance to the oxygen system twice in previous weeks.
