6.7mag earthquake Ecuador

Hi all, just flicked on sky news and this was going along the banner

A 6.7 struck today about 30 mins ago

Just to point out, this is the SECOND quake in the area, the first being a 6.7 at about 5am local time.

Well yeh it's not a small one isit, but it proceeded another quake quite soon after

Yeh I clocked it after I posted I did edit after for a mod to change but they haven't as of yet

So far today there have been 7 quakes total at a depth of around 68km .

Reports are now saying damage is minimal, which is good to hear. Probably not too easy on the psyche for the people who live there though.

There have been smaller ones almost every day in Ecuador since the last large one in the same general area. It is good that they are at a deeper depth that the many 10 KM ones that folllowed the last big ones, but I wonder what is to come. They did expect aftershocks for about a week, but they seem to have never stopped.

There have been 35 earthquakes in Ecuador in the past month.

The 2 in the last 24 hours were at 31 and 32 KM depth.

All of the ones listed on this map are the same two earthquakes from different sources. rsoe is horrible for quake tracking.

The deoth on that preliminary report is not right. All of the other sources state 31 and 32 KM.

Apparently, these may STILL be aftershocks.

This earthquake is part of the aftershock sequence of the April 16, 2016 M 7.8 event. Since that mainshock, the region has experienced 5 aftershocks of M 6 or larger, including a M 6.7 earthquake which occurred 9 hours prior to this M 6.8 event on May 17.
