The Pub

I entered the pub, a smoke filled bar room.
It smelled of burnt cherries, and cheap perfume.
The aroma carried throughout the whole place ,
So pungent the scent, tears flowed from my face.

Hesitant, I stood at the door for a minute,
This place was illegal, and I shouldn't be in it.
But I had a good reason to be here and,
I continued to work my way deeper on in.

My girl was on stage, a sultry seductress.
Pouty red lips, that matched her slinky red dress.
Your eyes followed her curves, barely hearing the song,
You were drunk on her looks and her voice before long.

I waited until, her last song she did sing,
I held in my hand, the most beautiful ring.
High hopes for the future, were within my mind,
Not another would do, no one else would I find.

I stood up and started to make my approach ,
Then I saw the others, who were 'bout to encroach,
My face fell... and so did the ring from my hand,
This lady, it seemed, was in high demand.

Crushed, I found my way back to the bar,
Where I ordered a shot, and then another.
I watched a young man finally take her home,
Then I walked out of the bar, unloved and alone.
