Northrop Grumman's Melbourne airport expansion revealed

Looks like NG is expanding in my neck of the woods.

Northrop Grumman's upcoming expansion at Orlando Melbourne International Airport will include three new office and laboratory buildings totaling 545,111 square feet, increasing the aerospace giant's campus at Orlando Melbourne International Airport to 157 acres.

And that the new bomber will somehow be involved.

Construction Engineering Group, the design firm that prepared the site plan, stated that Northrop Grumman's stealth-bomber expansion is “one of the most dynamic projects ever in Melbourne.”

I'm curious to know if they will be assembling the planes in Florida or if they will be testing or something else.

Melbourne is the historic home of JSTARS. They'll do engineering and probably wind tunnel testing for the bomber there, but they're looking at primary construction in California still. That's most likely where they're going to develop the radar for JSTARS and later integration into an airframe.

Cool. I see that they are adding the following buildings.

The site plan at Melbourne City Hall depicts the future Buildings 230, 231 and 232 at the nine-building campus on airport property off NASA Boulevard. Dimensions:

• A three-story, 275,000-square-foot office/laboratory building.

• A three-story, 219,111-square-foot office building.

• A three-story, 51,000-square-foot office/laboratory building.

The tallest structure will clock in at 72 feet, 5 inches.
