Gulfstream has been awarded a $91M contract to supply the US Navy with a single example, G550 AEW aircraft. The aircraft will be used as a range support aircraft, most likely to replace the current T-39D Saberliner that is used by VX-31 in that mission. The aircraft is to be delivered by December 2018.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., Savannah, Georgia, is being awarded a $91,900,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of one Gulfstream G-550 Green aircraft with Airborne Early Warning air vehicle modifications in support of a range support aircraft replacement. Work will be performed in Savannah, Georgia, and is expected to be completed in December 2018. Fiscal 2015 research, development, testing and evaluation (Navy) funds in the amount of $91,900,000 are being obligated on this award, all of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured pursuant to 10 U.S. Code 2304(c)(1). The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting authority (N00019-16-C-0028).

This one's getting IAI's AESA system right? I wonder if they'll hold back the full software build like we do.

We only block the source code for sensitive programs, such as the F-35. But in this case it appears the Navy will put their own systems onboard.

According to some sources it will replace the two NP-3D Billboard aircraft.

The RFP for a new triband telemetry system for the G550 has dropped. This confirms that the aircraft will be replacing the NP-3D Billboard range aircraft for the Navy.
