Iran signs for 118 Airbus aircraft

Iran has signed a deal with Airbus for 118 aircraft for Iran Air. They have said that over the next decade, they will buy as many as 400 aircraft to modernize their fleet. The current deal includes 12 A380s, 16 A350-1000s, 45 A330s (18 -900neos), as well as 45 single aisle aircraft, to include 24 A320neos. No word on how much the deal will be worth.

Iran Air has signed an acquisition agreement with Airbus covering an extensive fleet modernisation, including 12 A380s and 16 A350-1000s.

The plan also features 45 A330s of which 18 are the re-engined -900neo version.

In addition to the 73 long-haul jets Iran Air is also intending to take 45 single-aisle aircraft including 24 A320neos.

No engine selection has been disclosed, although the A350s and A330neos are available only with Rolls-Royce powerplants.

Now I wonder if Airbus after building these planes might fall under a sanction scheme down the road .Washington was very quick to get Frances ship building in a pickle and the farmers seem to be screaming about the sanctions on Russia .Will the deal be in USD or in Euros ? Could it be towards future oil swaps ? The Neo-con/war hawks don't like large sums of money they don't control going down . Time will tell .

When the sanctions were lifted, Iran said they were hoping to attract 20million tourists a year. I guess this is part of their strategy.

This will go a long way to helping get people there. Their current fleet is made up of older aircraft. As of July of last year, the average age of their fleet was twice that of just about anyone else, at 23 years old. They just retired their last 747-100 in early 2014. They were the last operator of that model.

With the heavy sanctions, they have probably just been biding their time. I seriously hope Iran become a pillar of the Middle East being modern and 'West friendly'. It's so sad that they reverted back a couple hundred years after the Shah was toppled. The Persians are capable of amazing things.

They that lobby loudest!! And no, not so much the U.S, although they do have some manufacturing in the U.S. I am thinking about the E.U being the biggest supporter of the peace talks and also key brokers in the negotiations.

I know it keeps a few thousand in employment in my home city alone, including suppliers to Airbus. It's about time we all just started to act in a more adult fashion wher politics is concerned. Mankind needs all nations to co-operate for future generations to prosper and experience the world we live in, in a positive way.

Iran has already said there will be a significant Boeing order coming as well. They're looking at over 400 aircraft in coming years, so they're going to spread it out over many manufacturers.

Oh, I'm sure they have. But the Europeans are going to benefit initially, it makes sense. I'm sure the U.S will be the benefactor of some other major deal in the coming weeks.

It's a dual deal. In addition to the aircraft, and training for crews and maintenance personnel, they also signed a deal that would improve the aviation infrastructure in Iran, improve training, adjust regulations to fall in line with ICAO nations, and more.

The aircraft deal is for 21 A320ceo family, 24 A32neo family, 27 A330ceo family, 18 A330neo (-900), 16 A350-1000, and 12 A380.

I remember seeing Iranian Aircraft flying in and out of Manas International Airport. I was there when Iran Aseman Airlines Flight 6895 crashed. It was a 737-200. Very old aircraft and you could see the potential problems from across the ramp. They needed the fleet replaced years ago. Congress screwed the pooch with sanctions and allowing american companies in to make these multi billion dollar sales.

Wonder how much the build up of skills needed to support the newer generation of aircraft filters through to their military. They've done some fantastic work being able to keep some of their airframes up despite the heavy sanctions so it gives an idea of the level of skill and ingenuity in country.

I think Iran currently only has 12 passenger aircraft licensed to travel into EU airspace.
