Tsunami Disaster - Donations

As a result of this tragic event, I have lost a very dear friend The past week have been very painful. But I could only imagine the pain and suffering of the families that have been torn apart, children who lost their parents, and parents who lost their children.

In a desperate effort to help out, my family have dished out almost $1000 in donations. It might not be much for some, might be alot for others, but for this family its all we can manage right now.
I would now like to plead...beg all the users of ATS to be generous, and take some money out of your saving, or set aside some of your wage and help these poor people rebuild their lives.

Very sorry to hear of your loss, my thoughts are with you.

The list of charities is a good one. Well recognised charities are the best to go with (CARE, Red Cross/Crescent, etc). Money is the preferred option at the moment, I know a lot of people are contributing food, clothes and the such, but money is better as it can be utilised in the most appropriate fashion, and anything that is bulky has to be freighted, which in itself costs money. It is better to allow the various aid organisations to use the money to source aid locally if possible, and it can be forwarded from there.
