A great book to read. One that makes you think, it might make you blink and it might make you drink

My 2016 book reading endeavor has gotten seriously sidetracked by some personal stuff. I haven't given up on it though.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

12 years to write. Sociological look at a modern world in the near future somewhat different from our own. I think the core of her book was to outline how well-intentioned socialism can attempt to enslave those that are the producers of goods.

I know you said just one, but I can't help myself.

Brules by Harry Combs This is not JUST a western. Yes, there is violence. From the opening pages of a struggle between two wild animals it grabs you. I've read this book more times than any other. I keep reading it and passing it on. Not available on Kindle, sadly. I ordered another copy from Amazon, and they sent me a John Grisham book instead.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. A beautiful book about overcoming the fears that stop you from following your dreams.

Encounter With Tiber (ISBN 0-340-62451-5)

a 1996 science fiction novel written by former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and science fiction writer John Barnes. A working title, used on some advance covers for the British edition, was The Tides of Tiber.

Many novels have changed my life, but they are personal.

That's really what I'm looking for.

Then I would say, "The Book of Tokens," by Paul Foster Case.

It's not a novel, but it is a novel idea, that changed my life for the better and for what's left of it.

Although IT by Stephen King is my favorite book, the one I would recommend is Dune by Frank Herbert. I wasn't forced to read it in school like a lot of people, I read it on my own terms and loved it.

Kind of late to the party, but I'd third Moby Dick and follow it up with the Moby Dick of the American West-- Blood Meridian!

Greetings to all fellow readers!

Thank you for recommending the Sevenwaters series. I read them and enjoyed them very much.

It's a long time since I read any Fantasy novels of this sort but they reawakened my taste for them. So much so that I found (by happy accident) the Throne of Glass trilogy to read online. I've just started the second book and have been completely engrossed.

I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am - that's many happy hours of reading thanks to you

If you could recommend just ONE book or book series...

If you have not already, then for the remainder of this year I would suggest reading:

The Year of Our War

by Steph Swainston,

And then anything you can get your hands on by M. John Harrison.
