U.N. slams U.S. as 'stingy' over tsunami aid!

Britain has donated around £80-000-000 towards the tsunami relief fund. This is equivilent to around £1.50 per person in Britain. Does anyone know the approximate figure of people in Britain who earn a wage, e.g not children under 16, elderly over 65 etc.

"AMERICA IS A HORRIBLE COUNTRY FILLED WITH IGNORANT, OBESE PEOPLE AND ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THEMSELVES! OH NO SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAS HAPPENED! AMERICA PLEASE SEND MONEY TO HELP THE REST OF US CORRECT OUR PROBLEMS!" - the rest of the world being jealous that we created a society the rest of the world now partakes in....and it just so happens we excel at it.

i'm a little confused... sure, america gives alot from the private sector, because it has such an immense private sector. but i don't pay taxes to UPS, amazon, or religious charities (well, maybe indirectly to the latterunder this administration, BUT-) i DO pay taxes to the federal government. is it so wrong for me to expect my government not to be consistently the last in rankings of aid donations by developed countries to needy countries? so the private sector contributes... great. i'm not a citizen of UPS or amazon or any private company, and they can do what they want. until america becomes much more socialist in nature, i will not lump the actions of it's government together with the actions of its private sector in matters of moral culpability. but i will remain upset with the government's decision to use my tax money for weapons and war before humanitarian aid.

put simply, you seem to be confusing americans as a people for the United States of America, the sovereign nation.

Guess the U.S. must have made it more difficult somehow for the UN to skim off a good chunk of the donated money like they did the oil for food program in Iraq - hence the comments about us being stingy.
