i love phillip casnoff as bent.

keep in mind this was a made for tv thing and it was made in 1985..you can definitely tell

That's a hell of a good series. I watched it with a friend a few months ago. Youtube actually has a few episodes. I'll post a link to them if you don't mind me putting them here.

Errrrrr, I rewatched Roots last year. It's still poignant.

in the books orry has a brother that is not in the mini series.

you were talking about johnny cash and his acting.
did you not realize that he was the one who played john brown?
he came in a couple episodes in at the harpers ferry raid

I remember watching this as a kid and loved it. I loved it so much I picked up the series it was based on. Imagine my surprise when I found out how the books went.

Bent was an evil, evil man.

And I'd say the books really weren't all that close. One of the main characters dies off, and by the end of number three the other main winds up with his widow.

i have not read them in a while. i have them on my shelf but it has been ages.
i might have to go back and read them again.
i know there are things the series left out but it also covered quite a lot of it.

i will admit though, i have seen the series a few times and only read the books once.
come to think of it, i might not have read the 3rd book. i dont remember.

North and South was the second time I had to teach my mother how to work the programming on our VCR. The first was Charles and Diana's wedding (I just did that one, and told her she would have to swap out tapes since it was like 12 hours long.)

So anyhow...I never watched it. I was too annoyed.

I forget. It's been so long since I've seen the miniseries ... Did they ever reference George's older brother, his wife, and their twin sons in the miniseries?

Oh and if you like North and South, you might also check The Blue and the Gray which was another miniseries about the Civil War. I think it was done maybe a bit earlier.



It follows two families who are related and split by the war. The main character decides because of this to take a war correspondent's role. He's an artist who follows the battles around and draws the war for the papers.

you know ashton is going to be a peach like 2 minutes after she is introduced.

did you know that james read(george hazzard) and wendy kilbourne (constance) met on the set and have been married since 1988?
i always thought that was cool.

i think terri garber(ashton) is doing the soap opera thing.

virgilia was a crazy betch man...no doubt

man, so many great characters are coming back.
some that stand out to me
salem jones, prime, justin, semiramis, and charles had his moments

im going to have to throw these in the blu ray i think.

They had twins in the books - Laban and Levi. I remember Constance having to get them out when the family's private train car is part of a derailment.

And Virgilia actually winds up redeeming herself in the end while Ashton gets her just rewards too.

i dont remember exactly how it went down but i think in the mini series ashton winds up being a lady of the night if you know what i mean.
