Do you play the odds and seem to come up short sometimes, well this is a thread for you then. I have to refinish our picnic table soon so I just bought a bunch of sand paper and I am waiting for the weather to improve. We have had this table for over 25 years and we take care of it so it will last another few years.

Maybe 6 years ago I was all set to go with doing the refinishing. No wind check/ no rain forecast check/ low humidity check. I'm good to go for the weekend. Saturday morning I get to sanding all the bits and pieces and by that night I had it done nice and smooth.

Sunday morning I shat the bed early and was out cleaning off the rest of the dust by 6:30 am and ready to apply the Poly Urethane (UV protected)
It was a wonderful morning I observed and smiled to myself at the easy task ahead. That would be a coat of Urethane at 7:00 am and a coat at 2:00pm and a final coat at 7pm.

Off I go and get the first coat on in about an hour plus some, I am checking it out for any stray bristles stuck to the urethane when this happens!
A pillow fight up in the tree above me and it was raining feathers I tell you! I look up and for the first time since we have lived in the house there was a Hawk in our tree right over the table. He was dining on breakfast big time:-) I kept trying to fix the table as he ate but the urethane was already tacky.
So I dropped my brush and went ape crazy screaming and clapping my hands and throwing empty cans at him. He gave a look that sent me into the garage and defeat that weekend. Never before or never since have we been witness to a pillow fight above our back patio.

This took another weekend to clean up as in sanding it all down again after it set, Lots of time and bucks down the drain.

I ask you what are the ODDS? Please share any stories you like.
Regards, Iwinder

Myself I would have poured a coat of urethane on to preserve the feathers. Then seen how many stories I could've made up about them.

Never ever ask that question.

You will be served.

Ah Murphy, always ready to throw a hawk who is loosing its feathers at you when your applying urethane paint on a picnic table. LOL

Come to think of it, life could be just one big lottery, earth was the jackpot winner.

i have a few that ill share as they come to me.

But on a recent trip to San Antonio (about 5 hours to the southeast) i pulled up at a red light. In the car next to me: my sister and her husband.

When i was opening the current business operation i was sitting, having lunch in a restaurant. All of a sudden, this dude I know vaguely walks by. He is our companies IT contractor down in Austin. He was here in my hometown working with a business partner on some tech stuff at a group of windmill sites.

in 6th grade i was in the El Paso airport after a visit with my family in El Paso. While i was getting ready to load up, a former class mate who had moved away 2 years earlier walked by. We noticed each other, and spent about 20 minutes catching up before he went on to his terminal to catch his flight out to California.

My dad was shot in the eye with a BB gun as a kid. A kid on a sheet metal roof accidentally pulled the trigger on his BB rifle, and the BB hit a nail hole dead center. My dad heard something above him, looked up, and the BB hit him in the eye nearly blinding him. He had terrible eye trouble throughout the rest of his life. But neither boy knew the other was there.

I snagged a bird while casting out a fishing line once.

I was sitting in my car eating a bag of chips while driving and I decided to stop at the market to meet a buddy who was on a cigaret break with two other coworkers.

My buddy asked me for a chip and he was standing a good 10 feet away and I replied to open your mouth and I threw a chip like a frizbee right in his mouth. I mean this is a chip! It was original flavored Pringles.

Another time, I went to the casino with a friend, while he lost all his money, I won the highest amount twice on the same slot machine!

I was sitting in the workvan making a plane out of a cardboard notification form and after putting my hand out the window to launch it my co worker said "i hope you are going to pick that up " . I launched it and it done a perfect 15 metre circle and landed in an open wheelie bin . I just said . No .

Thanks for the laugh:-)....If it was the third coat of urethane I might have just said bugger it and let it be. But the situation was the next two coats would have bubbled where the feathers were and let me tell you they were everywhere on that table. Perhaps I have discovered and new form of magnetism that the science world has yet to learn? :-)

(Equation time now) X squared plus radii must = feathers on urethane every time!
Looks good enough to me.
Now that is a BS story best told outside at the table.

Thanks for your comment.

If you want to embed something in urethane you have to pour it on over 16th inch thick. If you brush it on the embedded object will work it's way out.

Seriously what are the Odds of that happening? You were a long long way from home.....I bet you dropped your jaw just a bit and so did your sister and husband. Same city one light you both happened to stop side by side at the same time.
Thanks for posting your stories and keep em coming if more occur to you.
