What does manners have to do anything with thousands of guys lining up and shooting at eachother while there commanders watch and comment on how the battle is going, then latter celebrate give themselfs meddles and hire some guy to write about it in the history books? The only ones with manners were those not getting shot at, you know the ones who latter wrote about it.

Sorry but I dont know how old you are. But you may be on the wrong thread. Chivalry is just something people do who never have to be in the thick of it. It never really existed but in books and stories, people may practice whatever they think, but that does not mean nothing, just like believe in something means nothing and wont change the nature of that something.

But again we may be talking about different things. Who knows what crazy believes you kids get up to these days. If your talking about manners? Well that's a none issue, its a given, only when it becomes a issue and its not given, then does conflict set in.

You don't get wounded by sitting on a hill watching battles from far away. A major reason for the Confederacy losing was something called "leading from the front". 73 Confederate Generals were killed during the war. Just at Pickett's charge alone 5 were killed and at Franklin TN another 6 were uselessly sacrificed in charges against fortified positions.

Chivalry was in fact a real historical ideal and practiced from the Middle Ages up to the time of the American Civil War. It was not just some romantic notion that made for good novels and movies.

These were the 10 Commandments of Chivalry:

10.Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil (Always and everywhere be right and good against evil and injustice)

The more you learn about the Civil War the more you will find that acts of chivalry were still regarded as the warrior ethos, the manly ideal of what constituted honor and decency.
