WAR: Afghan Soldiers Storm Jail

Afghani Troops stormed the Pul-e Charkhi jail Friday in an attempt to end a standoff that had started in the morning with a failed escape by four inmates. The four are suspected of once being part of the al-Quad terrorist network. The standoff began when one Iraqi and three Pakistanis overpowered and killed a guard, then killed three other guards. It appears that two of the four prisoners were killed in gunfire at the time. Soldiers launched a pre nightfall assault, firing rocket-propelled grenades into the prison, and bringing the death total to four guards and four prisoners. Soldiers said the last two prisoners had been killed in the assault and that the rebellion had been put down.



What I find puzzling is that the soldiers claimed they had put down the uprising in the jail and it was over but gunfire had started again, I guess they where just cleaning up any lose ends so to speak.

A job well done by the Afghan soldiers. Its a good thing the Al-Qaida prisoner was unable to contact anyone in the network outside of the prison to assist in an escape attempt. Though had that occured, it comes to mind if they would have been able to escape regardless. I doubt the group would risk martyrs to rescue prisoners though.
