Bihar Government bans plastic packaged water bottles in all its departments

As part of its green initiatives, Bihar Government has prohibited all its offices from using or buying plastic packaged water bottles. Officials have been advised to serve purified water in steel tumblers and glasses in place of plastic bottles. Moreover, no bills related to the purchase of packaged water bottles will be cleared, in order to ensure strict implementation of the ban.

When is America going to get on board with healthy and natural and get off this greedy selfish paradigm were stuck on?

I live in southern Ontario, we literally have the most fresh water in the world. And i cringe whenever I see people with plastic water bottles.
Once in a while I like a sparkling water, but I make sure it's in a glass bottle and gets recycled properly. Or I just fill my own thermos up with water before I go out.
At work they banned plastic water bottles, but we have fountains every like 100 feet or so, so it works out.

I spent some time touring India in 2001 and 2005, and it was not

recommended to drink unbottled water under any conditions

not even in the best Hotels, we were even warned to make

sure the bottle had not been opened before we were given

it at the table, in the rooms (complementary) or when buying

in shops.

We were even advised to use bottled water for cleaning our

teeth.

The villages were just getting running water one central tap

in place of the well that had until then serviced them!

Don't mention rivers you should see the state of the Ganges!

they bathe in it, the ashes of the dead go in it, along with

dogs and much trash.

As short a time as 60 yrs. ago purifying water consisted of

boiling it and cooling it off in terracotta urns.

That is the way it is in much of Asia. You can get eye flukes (you go blind eventually) from just eating undercooked fish which is common in Laos, Cambodia, and Northern Thailand.. A tropical paradise is not just for humans but for water born critters also.

Most water storage tanks even at some of the finer hotels are made of some sort of plastic and hold around 150 liters (?) of water. Supposedly that plastic is better than the cheap plastic water bottles you buy at some store. They have a green environmental earth sticker and everything so it must be true ! (sarc)

We in the states take drinkable municipal water for granted in most places and are blessed we are not dropping like flies due to some waterborne illness.

I am not speaking in defense of plastic water bottles by no means, just telling it like it is is many places.

That I don't really know. Do they have more industrial and pharmaceutical

waste than any other country?

However considering as of two days ago they have the fastest growing

economy in the world their water, sanitation, and electrics are very

third world. Neither do they have a national system for domestic waste

disposal .... not to mention the poverty.
