I'm getting sick of micro transactions in games

I refuse to play any game where I have to buy things from a cash shop to win or be competitive. If I can eventually earn the things through gameplay, I might buy in, but if the best stuff is ONLY offered via micro transactions, then I'm not even going there.

It's just not worth it. It's a huge scam and you will end up paying more in microtransactions than you ever would with even a monthly sub.

Yeah, the point of this rant is that I am willing to pay a subscription even to pay for a game to be maintained, and I'm willing to buy downloadable content packs (in limited amounts) for console games but I don't like competitive games where it costs hundreds of dollars or a thousand dollars to be competitive because to be at the top requires purchases.

An example of a game without micro-transactions is Starcraft - it is competitive, and based on skill. Imagine if they made it competitive based on money spent - like you could spend $100.00 to improve marine damage in multiplayer.

Also, there are some games for the console that you purchase that still have micro transactions. Those are annoying. For example, getting the Arena in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Perfect, and it's true! It can end up being more money spent than on a subscription

That's how they suck you in and make millions. I refuse to play.

I spend about £10 on gaming yearly and I have a great time!

I'm not joking or scamming you - what I do is buy half decent classic games from charity shops or from the internet for about a pound to two pounds then play thorough the singleplayer and head onto multiplayer which is most of the time fairly well populated and fun I do all of this on a cheap outdated laptop which makes light work of these older games.

You may still be sceptical but believe it or not there are still communities playing the first battlefield game which still after years and years is a load of fun and plays well online - then there's the people playing the older COD games there's men of war, world in conflict, age of empires and the command and conquer (I think) all with players still online.

You can have a world of fun with free emulators such as dos box - allowing dos games to be playable and PSXE which emulates ps one games. All of the games for these emulators and the emulators themselves are free online and you have pretty much every title ever on those platforms for free!

If a game was fun "back then" it'll most likely still be good for a laugh now and if the multiplayer is still online - all the better!

I used to play order and chaos on the ipad and was a great game untill micro transactions ruined it

After a lot of dungeon runs with friends and randoms I got the best gear to drop but then they started a lottery in the game that you used real money for and then it became pay to play giving the best armour or weapons in the game away without that person having to actualy work for it

I won't play pay to play games,I know you don't have to pay but many do and that doesn't make it an even playing field

Take for example FIFA

Couple of chaps at work play and say the competitions online gets stupid when your facing someone who has paid money to get the best squad

GTA V ,again micro transactions are there and that's a shame as It puts me off buying it

I'm on PS4 now playing destiny and enjoying the hard work involved to gear up while having a laugh with new friends doing the hard raids

But if destiny becomes another credit card short cut game I will try another

Is why stick to free .. or pirated games that dont require ingame purchases to play .. if want to spend money to play a game Ill go to a casino .. at least there get tangible returns on money spent .. and get to ogle waitresses in skimpy outfits ...

You are right to have a moan about this. I can't imagine how much cash the companies make these days just for playing a game.

Better off sticking to x-box or playstation games you buy for £40 and its done then, no need to spend more.

Definately on the ball there.... at east as you say, at a Casino you get a chance to double or tripple up!

Speaking as an avid gamer (although more as a 'former' avid gamer, due to the topic of this thread), I've refused to 'pay to play' since the beginning.

Since I have refused this business model, I've found that I play far less games than I used to, and as it stands, I'm fine with it.

You should be able to play a complete game when you purchase it.

As soon that I see it's a pay-to-win, I immediatly quit the game. Anyway, there are sooooo many games out there on PC that are cheap and awesome.

Bundle Stars for example. I've found many great games there for under 1$ each. Steam sales also are nice and G2A.com is a great place to find deals too!

The only microtransactions games I play are the ones that are not pay-2-win. Warframe and Gun of Icarus are good examples and they are both very good games. Warframe is free but I did buy for 50$, not because I needed it thaaat much but the quality of the game is amazing and they deserved my money.

In all honesty, a lot of these games with microtransactions could be a whole lot worse. We could be talking Eve, Battlestar Galactica Online, etc. I don't dare even try Eve, it's notoriously P2W to the Nth degree. I did try BSG Online. That had so much potential to be a great F2P with a cash shop option, but it was clear when I tried it that unless you were prepared to dump a ton of money into it, you weren't going far.

I don't mind microtransactions if they are things like in The Sims where they add extra décor or hair and clothing options ... basically cosmetic stuff that you don't need to enjoy the full game. CoX had a cash shop, too, and it added costume options and powerset options, but you didn't need any of that to play at the highest levels of the game.

Those kinds of cash shops are fine, and I think you still haul in a lot of people for those things.
