British Ebola patient to fly to UK

Confirmed - first UK national with Ebola being flown back to UK now on RAF plane.

A Briton who contracted the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone is being flown back to the UK on an RAF jet, the UK Department for Health has said.
The patient, who is a healthcare worker, is to be flown to RAF Northolt and will then transported to an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in north London.
The Briton is "not currently seriously unwell", a spokesman said.

Health chiefs say the risk to the UK from the virus remains "very low".

I heard on BBC Radio 5 news just now that the guy was an aid worker. I hope he is able to recover as magically as the two in the US.

Flying hot patients home isn't a good idea. Too much risk of an infection despite what they claim. Unless the UK has been given the all clear to test their vaccine or whatever by TPTB I think this is another try at infecting the West.

I haven't seen the mass infections in the US that scaremongers warned about in the huge 'Ebola Atlanta hospital' thread.
It's been over 20 odd days now as well, so it would appear that people wet their pants a bit prematurely.

With regard to "infecting the West" why on earth would it be done in such a long drawn out way such as bringing this guy back to the UK? It would be far easier and more effective to just contaminate fresh foods, in major cities.
I don't see either a conspiracy or a 'sky is falling' situation for the UK just yet.

BBC Radio 5 just reported that the patient has arrived at an RAF base and will shortly be transported to the hospital in London.
I wish him well and everyone treating or assisting him.

What if Ebola has mutated its symptoms. It has been stated that it can incubate for a longer period without symptoms. Anything manmade can be altered; however, it seems that TPTB got everybody's attention like a dog that isn't broken in yet. Like a Jack Russell that has just discovered everything in the park - everybody is looking at the obvious but not what is lurking in the shadows.

The US appear to have kept things under control in Atlanta, likewise Spain...I assume the situation will be the same for this poor individual now back in the UK from helping people in Sierra Leone.
The sky is not falling in, no matter how many people in the last month have expressed it on ATS...more people should just have a cup of tea in my opinion, it helps.

Yeah, I'm thinking with the cases of anthrax, rabies, plague they're using Ebola as a cover. It is affecting many but I agree, wherever the limelight is, a true, pertinent issue is hidden in the dark.

Well it hasn't kicked off in the US after your two aid workers magically recovered from the experimental treatment.
Maybe the guy now in the UK will just die as we don't have the magic drug, but I'd be surprised if he died and anyone else was infected. The UK has similar biological procedures and equipment as the US.

Actually, it's a great idea. The patient will have a better chance in a modern health system. Unfortunately, the medical services in most of Africa are poor, albeit supported by some very devoted people.

I think it is a good opportunity for UK labs to gain access to primary blood/virus samples, while providing our best care to a citizen who went to a former British colony to care for people who were suffering from a horrible disease.
There is too much unsubstantiated 'Western' fear of Ebola on ATS. I wish this thread only to be an impartial and factual record of events without unnecessary emotions.

William Pooley, 29, said he expects to recover from the virus in a fortnight and will go back to the area where he saved dozens of lives.

I really hope this guy recovers, and that his immune system allows him to go back there to help people with less risk to himself than before. What a brave and compassionate guy, apparently he was doing 12 hour shifts caring for ebola patients...I am glad the UK flew him back, and I am glad we are not all in paranoid panic mode because he is being cared for here.

Im from the UK and I'm not worried in the slightest about this person being treated in the UK for ebola, at least the person is getting world class treatment and will more than likely beat this disease.

Same thoughts exactly, I hope he does.
...and I'm glad for our tax-funded NHS which won't charge him a penny for the treatment. If he recovers he will be able to continue his altruistic volunteer work in Western Africa without crippling medical bills of many tens of thousands.

The parents of the first British person to contract Ebola during the outbreak in West Africa say he is recovering well. William Pooley, 29, has spent the last week in a special isolation unit at Royal Free Hospital in London.

His parents, Robin and Jackie, say they knew he was improving when he ordered a "bacon butty" and praised the "world class" care at the hospital.

Very pleased for the chap, and we all know you're getting better when you're craving a bacon sandwich again!
Good to see that all the doom of '21 days later' and the fears of bringing the guy back to the UK appear to have been debunked so far.
Almost a pity though, I sort of miss the doom porn that was found in some 'other' Ebola threads on ATS.

Virtually every one of your posts is taking jabs at people expressing concern over Ebola and even 'wishing' they would stop doing so. Your option is to not read or post in the threads rather than bash those who do.

There is nothing "doom pornish" about reporting and monitoring a potential life threatening epidemic. It is not made up. It is genuine concern based on facts. This is a conspiracy website and the Ebola threads are here because 'some' people are alerted to a potential problem and trying to track and stay on top of it.

There are well documented instances of plagues historically that wiped out entire civilizations - pardon the punn but these are nothing to sneeze at. If Ebola starts spreading in your neighborhood would you want to know? If you do then these threads are a good place to stay informed and ahead of it - IF - it comes to that.

Personally I appreciate people being alert and aware and thank everyone adding their work here.

Ah but you see there has been no spread of Ebola in any western nation, and because of that, yes, I am calmly sharing the news of the UK victim in this thread with my own opinion of the paranoia presented in many other threads.
I think the fear in the 'Atlanta hospital' thread was absolutely over the top with lines like 'Oh it's so irresponsible to bring them back' and ''21 days and counting' or even the classic doom line 'and so it begins' lol.
I like ATS for the fact we can all share any unreported things, like curfews, or haz-mat teams arriving in neighbourhoods at the dead of night or whatever, but none of that happened and people wet their pants over nothing as far as I saw it.

You may not like that I find it amusing that those who cried that the sky was falling appear to have been a bit premature, but it is ATS and it happens all the time. Take the Iceland volcano a week or so ago, it was all doom until it nothing happened, likewise the recent solar flare, and everything else in between.

I like the exchange of information, although ATS is essentially a place to post MSM news stories these days, as I have done in this thread, but the blatant fear and doom is lame without anything to back it up, and I get the impression that some members genuinely want some type of crisis to happen - I don't, but I reserve the right to be amused by the 'sky is falling in' crowd.

I think it's mostly instinct kicking in. Ever been walking through the forest and observed (or seen it on tv) that when a herd of deer hear any sound they all stop and pop their heads up and pay attention because it "could" be a predator even though most times it is not? In case it is a predator they are on alert and ready to run. I don't see being (highly) concerned about Ebola as being any different. It only takes one to carry it and pass it along and from my observation there's plenty of opportunity for it to spread. The media is days behind reporting. WHO has admitted it is well under-estimated. People travel all over the world today unlike decades/centuries ago. This is by far the largest outbreak ever.

Feel free to find it amusing. I personally don't believe there's a single poster on these threads who secretly hopes for it to happen. It's a common theme these days - to call people "fear-mongerers" and propagating "doom porn" when all they are doing is popping their head up because they heard a noise that might be a predator and alerting the rest of the herd. I'd rather have a thousand false alarms than miss one genuine one. And yeah, 21 days and counting means exactly that - any time now there may be reports of secondary infection popping up.

I was at the airport last week (small airport) and some guy in front of me sneezed - it's that easy to get sick from someone else. I have no idea where he's been and who he's been in contact with. The scary thing about this (Ebola) is that it is so easily spread - and is not yet contained. I think it's a horrible and traumatic death. We all die sometime, yes, but if it didn't matter to us when and how we wouldn't be posting in these forums.

Seems to me that the paranoid and scared elements of ATS involved in Ebola threads are US nationals, and the more chilled and rational ones are Brits having a cup of tea and discussing the things we actually know.
I assume you are from the US as you appear, in your posts here and elsewhere, to be rather more concerned and/or scared about things which have not happened yet.

I shall continue to find amusement in the 'sky is falling in' crowd, as found in the 'Atlanta hospital Ebola' thread, it is classic ATS, and I presume you would support my right to dismiss presented 'evidence' and 'research' which amounts to nothing more than watching youtube vids?

...I'm crashing out after watching another boring England 'friendly' football match win, but happy that the sky does not appear to be falling in just yet. Perhaps US members may think differently about the Ebola thing...I'll have a read on my mobile when I sit on the throne before my morning shower tomorrow...all doom porn welcome in this thread though, it reminds me how good a cup of tea is to avoid freaking when there is no evidence to suggest that freaking is required, lol.

Just realised that 'IS' 'ISIS' whatever they are is the new Ebola in recent threads now so the lack of an outbreak in the UK is not important anymore. ATS has really become whatever MSM is reporting these days as far as I see it, bit lame, but better than the ridiculous 2012/Niburu rubbish a couple of years ago at least. I know I'm reporting MSM stuff in this thread myself, but no wetting my pants going on, just sharing links for general information.
