This is an amazingly beautiful and mysterious temple situated on Huayna Pic’chu near Machu Pic’chu.in Peru. No one knows the original name of the temple so it was renamed the Temple of the Moon.

In the center of the cave is a throne carved out of rock. Beside the throne are steps that lead deeper into the cave. It is thought that the caves were used to hold mummies. The Temple of the Moon dates back 1500 years; if this is true, then it predates the Inca. It was rediscovered in 1936. It lies 1,280 feet (390 meters) below the summit on the north side of Huayna Pic’chu.

No one really knows what the temple was used for. People in the past used to think that caves and springs where entrances to kingdoms of the Gods. Either way it is a lovely find..

Keeping in mind that caves, like springs, were thought to be entrances for the Gods

The name "Temple of the Moon" was used for the first time by Hiram Bingham, but archaeologists disagree with this denomination.

The moon rises from the east and the cave is oriented with the west. Also the moonlight doesn't reach the cave until the early morning when the sky is already a bit clear.

it looks like it was a burial place, according Astete and Mormontoy. "That was probably the tomb of a senior official in the area or a priest, well achieved by the architecture. The seat is there is important because the mountains are sighted. "

Yes i do not think it really is a Temple of Moon. The name was given to it probably because they do not have a clue what the temple was for and they had to call it something..

happy days
