I do not think Russia stands a chance in conventional warfare against the US, let alone the whole of NATO.

So it should be either surrender upfront or use everything at hand at the start of the hostilities.

Coming to your comment that Russia can do whatever it wants...........it is the US/NATO encroachment on Russian sphere that is the root of all this problem. So what about the sovereign nation's choice logic...........where was this logic before 1991, did it not apply to the Warsaw pact nations.

As soon as Russia got 5x weaker all sorts of new logics start to prop up and encroachments started to happen. In the 90s and early 10s, Russia was too weak and recouping from economic depression.

Encroachments will Not Happen Anymore..............even at the cost of a nuclear war. Your choice, either correct your (US/NATO) demeanor or have a nuclear nonsense with nothing left out to fight for.

It's actually a tactic with the intention to allow cooler heads to prevail through diplomacy and solution creation.

I read this and your other post with interest. Your right and your wrong. Plane for Plane, Tank for Tank, and man for man the US (and UK, and Germans) are better than the Russians. The problem is getting equipment there. US European Command is a shadow of it's cold war prowse. Russia is next door to the theater of an operations that would be conducted (Ukraine, Poland, Baltics). I detailed the ground forces a bit earlier. Let's look at your claim that the USAF would stop the Russians cold.

There are 2 Squadrons of F15Es and 1 Squadron of F15Cs in the UK, 2 squadrons of F16Cs at Aviano AFB in Italy (and one is currently in Poland) and another F16 squadron in Germany. That's approximately 72 tactical aircraft (given 12 jets per squadron, sometimes they have as many as 18). A formidable force. But the Red Air Force could bring several hundred Mig29s, SU27/33 series, Mig31s, SU24 and SU 25s without moving the logistics. For the US to bring in more jets we have to transport them over the Atlantic and bring a good deal of the support with them (although much of that remains in Europe).

But there are other issues.

1.) Several USAF combat units have had flight hours cut or been grounded due to "sequestration" so flight hours are down and many squadrons aren't technically deployable.
2.) Most of the F15 Fleet is over 25 years old. Several have been grounded, at least 2 have come apart in flight.
3.) None of the vaunted F22s are in theater. And about 2/3rds of that Fleet is orientated on/in the Pacific. Leaving only a couple of squadrons available. There are also rumors the 02 system issue isn't entirely resolved either. I would say if you see those squadrons being moved though, things are getting serious.

So, again, I think the US/NATO could beat the Russians, but only if they get the time to move US forces. And we aren't doing that yet. Honestly, nothing is going to happen unless Putin takes Ukraine in its entirity, or moves to the Baltics or Poland. Not likely. If Putin plans to do that he needs to start it soon. This boils down, at least at first, not to who's "better", but who is in theater the "firstest with the mostest".

He also took a massive $50m with him to grease a few palms well that will pay the interest for the day on the outstanding debt the Ukraine owes to Russian for last month gas.

BRICS lol. All the Brics nations have managed to so far is fight with each other. They meet and India is mad South Africa is allowed in, Brazil is mad China is undercutting is manufaturing sector, India is mad Russia and Brazil are jacking enery prices up higher. They can not agree on anything. Of course that is just an economic grouping anyway. when it comes to foriegn affairs, India and China do not get along at all with border problems and Chinas ties to Pakistan nor is China happy with Russia arming its likely enemy India. Brics will do what they always do when it comes to foriegn policy, nothing, take no sides.

As for Israel wanting war with Russia, that could not be further from the truth. Israel and Russia have had growing ties because Russia needs Israeli militray tech. If you notice Israel has been quiet about the entire things because they want to keep trade with Russia but, not hurt ties to the US either. It is the same tact China and Iran have taken.

This is not news. Poland is a NATO state. When you see "NATO troops being deployed to Ukraine" then you can push the panic button.

On the otherhand NATO's European nations have air forces which very easily have 500 4++ generation planes like EU Fighter, Rafael, F-18 SuperHornets etc. Russia has barely 30 or so Su-35s. So NATO nations can hold off Russian Air Forces till the time US is able to arrive with its F-22s and other high ticket items.

Both China and India are very selfish and also timid nations. It will be hard for Russia to rally them up on a short notice.

However, your second logic is EXCELLENT. If they screw Russia up, then next in line will be China and India on various agendas. So either they help Russia on a short notice OR enjoy their final freedom vacation before "total subjugation" by the western powers.

Baltics and Poland have requested these troops for a while now, nothing US needed to push, the countries (the citizens) wanted it themselves. Too much negative history with Russia and when looking at the Ukraine situation, it is reasonable why such aggressiveness makes these countries slightly worried.

In Estonia, no special military training is made. Every year, in May, big trainings are held. This is kind of like "graduation" for the people in obligatory military service. Last exercise and after that it is over. This time, just US troops also take part in it.

I am sorry but you are not so well informed about how this started. While Western governments are reacting to the situation and taking some opportunities, the truth is that the Euromaidan grew into thousands because of actual popular disgust among Ukrainians over the original November beating of only a couple hundred unarmed student protestors in Maidan.
