The Cost of Keeping the Royals and their Jollies

I have never understood the fascination that Americans have with British royalty. But I don't understand why people are interested in our own celebrities either.

I am an American and I don't get it either. Why all the fuss over a baby that just happened to be born into the right family? The reason I get is that he is "So freaking adorable." What makes him cuter than any other baby? What makes him so deserving of having more money spent on him than most any other child ever to exist? What makes him better than a dying baby in Africa. The money spent on one of his rompers would feed and provide medical care for a dying baby in Africa for years.

And honestly, forgive my ignorance, but what do the royals actually contribute to society besides paparazzi fodder?
