Sorry but Apple are as bad as MS used to be, Apple is style over substance they are a bunch of money grabbing B&^3^%$£S for example why should I need extra hardware to connect my wife's ipad to my wifi printer when for example my Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn't, even any of the 3 PS3's dotted around the house can with no problems!

Also look at the problems with the iphone 5/ipad mini charger's lasting only a few weeks, with some of the hardware issues they have had over the last couple of years it's just as well they have itunes for revenue.

Not to be that girl but...

I wish I knew what hardware one needs to connect an iPad to a printer? Or an iPhone? Also, the lightning cables work just fine. Mine are over a year old and still kicking. Unless they are third party Chinese knockoff garbage that kill people, lightning is just fine. I take it you don't really know what is current regarding the products or company. You might be surprised how many things have changed and constantly change and improve over time. The iPhone 5 was a long time ago..

I agree this is an excuse that is too common and an easy way for people to dismiss it as an option. Granted, I can't afford a Mac right now and I need one, but I've done so many amazing things with the iPad and iPhone that far surpass what I could do on the PC (I have had more than my fair share) currently my PC is just used for things like YouTube. It has iTunes, but I don't use it much.

Also, upgrading OS versions don't cost a thing. Been that way since October. Plus, the newest OSX runs on much older machines which is a huge plus for people who need to save money. How much is Windows again?

Interesting to note though that Office is now finally available on the iPad. The new CEO is totally trying to make Microsoft stuff work with ours, even at a discount.

Also, I must ask since when has Microsoft really cared about style? (How about that brown Zune?)


Though, yes XP was a legend and 27% will dwindle down as time passes. However it shows many people listened to the advice to upgrade to something else. Hopefully Microsoft can put more focus onto improving the currently supported stuff now they don't have to worry much with keeping XP patched every five seconds.

That's not an XP limitation, that's a limitation with all the 32 bit OSes. The 64 bit version of XP isn't limited to 4 gigs, just as the 64 bit versions of later operating systems aren't limited to 4 gigs, but the 32 bit versions of later operating systems are still limited to 4 gigs just like the 32 bit version of XP.

The Microsoft OS XP is and always has MEDIOCRE AT BEST as well it’s lousy slow browser.

Every time it crashes I wonder about the billionaires from Microsoft and how they are little better than gangsters.

I have been a PC specialist for a long time and of all the Microsoft versions the only one that worked well was windows 3.11 way back in time and they quickly moved out of that version to the next mediocre OS, I think win95.

So believe me there will be little lost with the company abandoning this lousy crashing monstrosity.

There are some slight gains in memory capacity between XP 64 bit and later 64 bit, but they are of no practical value to anyone I know of (unless you use the home versions where memory is actually more limited on Windows 7):

My experience is completely different. I had lots of crashes with everything prior to windows 2000, but with windows 2000 and XP I almost never, and I mean almost never, have operating system related crashes.

The few crashes I do have here and there can almost always be traced to things other than the operating system, like problems with hardware, problems with software other than the operating system (and this is also extremely rare, happened maybe twice in the last decade).

However I suspect one reason the ISS stopped using Windows is greater reliability of Linux:

I do have problems other than crashes with windows, like bad memory management that force me to reboot when no reboot should really be necessary, and other problems, but for me windows 2000 fixed the crashing problems I experienced frequently with previous versions. I'm not defending windows too much though, and I think the ISS switching to Linux was the right move, as windows does have problems, I just wanted to point out that for me, windows crashes haven't been a problem in the last decade (I did report so many crashes with my old laptop that the IT department ended up getting me a new laptop, but it had the same operating system, and it didn't crash, so obviously the crashing problems were not the result of a problem with the operating system, and I can see how some people might come to such a false conclusion).
