In turn of the century New York, there lived a man who only had one hand. Where his hand went was anyone’s guess, even he couldn’t tell you ( He
was quite stupid ). The only thing he knew was having only one hand earned him the nickname “Slice”.
Slice made a modest living selling day old bread he had stolen the day before. Even though he only charged a nickel a loaf, back in 1903 New York that
would buy you a picture show, popcorn, a soda, a steak dinner after the show, and 2 hours with a prostitute. Such were Slice’s appetite that he had
to sell 784 loaves a day to keep up with this habit. Since he couldn’t do it, he decided the practical thing to do was to give up the picture show,
popcorn, soda, and steak dinner.
All this had occurred by the time he was 12, which wasn’t surprising. Back then it was normal for kids to lose their virginity at 8 and strike out
on their own by 9. It was a different time, people were a lot more cruel, less compassionate, and overall just mind-bogglingly ignorant. People these
days are still very, very ignorant, but it no longer boggles the mind. Anyway, when Slice turned 13 he decided he better slow down and take life at a
slower pace if he hoped to reach 22 like his father had. So he decided to take up 2 of the most healthiest items known to mankind then, alcohol and
tobacco.
