Christie 'punishes' head of abusive state agency with judgeship

I think this will be end of Christie for any higher political career. Appointing the man in charge of several bridges to a six figure salaried position of supreme judgeship. But isn't the George Washington bridge under the authority of DRPA? Is Christie bribing a possible stooley to the George Washington bridge fiasco? The timing is suspicious.

The Delaware River Port Authority, which controls several bridges connecting South Jersey to Pennsylvania, was the inspiration for one of state comptroller Matthew Boxer’s most damning reports. He found it wasted millions, diverting toll-payer money into the pockets of friends, political allies and profiteering middlemen.

Chief among them was George Norcross, the Democratic political boss of South Jersey — and a frequent ally of the governor.

What did Matheussen do as head of this miscreant agency to stop all that abuse?
Absolutely nothing. And now he’s being awarded a lofty judgeship for it.

The blame here falls not only on the governor, but also Democrats in the Senate who approved this nomination with barely a peep. That seems strange only until you consider the fact that state Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) is a childhood friend of Norcross, and has close ties to the Delaware River Port Authority. Sweeney’s brother serves as a commissioner there and has been subpoenaed in the federal investigation of the agency.

Can't say I'm shocked. This is how politics work in the US. Have a peon do your dirty work, deny you had anything to do with it, then reward the peon later on.

Still researching this. It seems John Matheussen is very eligible. He served in the New Jersey Senate from 1992 to 2003, where he represented the 4th Legislative District and earned his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in Communications, from Seton Hall University. He was awarded a J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law and he was an attorney with the firm of Dilworth Paxson LLP. Maybe it's just the controversial dishonesty that is being investigated. I don't know what to think about this.

Many democrats in NJ have sold their souls to the governor for future favors.
They don’t ideologically agree with his conservative policies of austerity but they know if they help him they will get personal favors and if they go with their convictions they fear what happened to the mayor of Hoboken will happen to them. That is those who have any real convictions.
