During the desperate frantic moves by the Tea Party and the Republicans

Unpopular Florida Gov. Rick Scott with his 22% job approval has decided to make a desperate move to strip the voters of Florida the right to vote.

Gov. Rick Scott's purge of likely Democratic voters from the voting rolls is supposed to be targeted at non-citizens. It isn't

If you live in Florida and you are a legal citizen and you are a Vietnam Veteran or WW2 veteran you should check to see if terrorist tea partier Rick Scott decided to strip your right to vote.

I guess he doesn't like his job. Because messing with vets is the fastest way to lose it.

This man said it best.

Jon Soltz.

“When someone who put their life on the line to protect the right to vote from fascists and empires is denied the right to vote, and is purged from voting rolls, there is something horribly, horribly wrong. Anyone who would stand behind an action that threatens the right to vote of a WWII vet is someone I would call un-American."

Are we absolutely 100% certain that the department in charge of sending out the notices has not been infiltrated ?

A well placed shill can easily change the list.

Did they use a contractor to assemble the list and do the notifications ?

It's not a department but the Secretary of State, Kurt Browning, who assembled the list. Browning is a Republican and appointed by Scott. Browning refused to release the list after claiming it was unreliable, he resigned his post not long ago.

EXCLUSIVE: Florida Telling Hundreds Of Eligible Citizens That They Are Ineligible To Vote

Late last year, Scott ordered his Secretary of State, Kurt Browning, to “to identify and remove non-U.S. citizens from the voter rolls.” Browning could not access to reliable citizenship data. So election officials attempted to identify non-U.S. citizens by comparing data from the state motor vehicle administration with the voting file. That process produced a massive list of 182,000 names, which Browning considered unreliable and refused to release. Browning resigned in February and Scott pressed forward with the purge.

The timing of this action is also highly suspect. By the time the voters receive these notices, respond with the proper paperwork, and schedule a hearing to review their status to prove they are legal, eligible voters, they will have missed the opportunity to vote because Rick Scott wanted to suppress the vote.

Another case of voter suppression:

Meet Maureen Russo: An Eligible Florida Voter Governor Rick Scott Just Purged From The Voting Rolls

Maureen Russo was born in Akron, Ohio. For the last 40 years she’s operated a dog boarding and grooming business — Bobbi’s World Kennels — with her husband in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Maureen is 60 years old and has been a registered voter in the state for the last four decades. She regularly votes at the church around the corner from her home.

Two weeks ago she received a letter from the State of Florida informing her that they had received information that she was not born in this country and, therefore, was ineligible to vote.

Even after replying to the letter with her paperwork the state has not responded, leaving her in limbo.

The Secretary of State resigned over this fiasco:

Fla. Gov. started push to remove voters from rolls
(miamiherald.com)

Ex-Secretary of State Kurt Browning, who resigned this year, told The Associated Press that Scott asked him whether or not non-U.S. citizens were registered and if those people were voting. Browning explained to the governor during a face-to-face meeting last year that people who register and falsely claim they are citizens can be charged with a crime.

"He says to me - well, people lie," Browning recalled this week. "Yes, people do. But we have always had to err on the side of the voter."

Browning said the conversation prompted state election officials to begin working to identify non-U.S. citizens. The state's initial list - compiled by comparing driver's licenses with voter registration data - showed that as many as 182,000 registered voters were eligible to be in the country but ineligible to vote.

But Browning said he decided against telling local election supervisors right away because he wanted to make sure the information was accurate in order to avoid a "firestorm of press" and criticism. Florida then spent months trying to get access to a federal database that tracks non-U.S. citizens in the country, but the U.S. Department of Homeland Security would not allow it.

"We were not confident enough about the information for this secretary to hang his hat on it," said Browning, who resigned after the Jan. 31 presidential preference primary.

Amazing how the United States claims it's over in the Middle East fighting to bring democracy to oppressed citizens there, but back home we are fighting AGAINST it.

I'm not American, but I flagged this thread, because if this is true, then it deserves to be put on the front page, imo. It screams abuse of power by denial of rights. It should and must be corrected.

The shame of it is, this isn't the first time Florida pulled this nonsense. They purged eligible voters back in 2000 as well, removing thousands of legal voters just in time for the 2000 election, in which Bush won by just 537 votes. The 2000 purge removed nearly 83,000 voters, mostly poor, black, and democratic voters.

Leon County, Florida, checked the accuracy of the 2000 voter purge list and found it had only a 5% accuracy rate. Out of 694 names from their county on the purged list, only 34 were found to be illegible. That leaves 660 voters cut off from voting.

Democracy failed in Florida in 2000, and is doomed to failure again in 2012 if this is allowed to stand.

I wonder why the U.S. Justice Department hasn't questioned this ?

There must be some kind of Federal violation somewhere ?

The DailyKos is the worst of the worst of sources available.

Since this is your thread, did you research this at all? Was this just a simple error and not a conspiracy at all? Remember your source here is known for it's propaganda and slander.

Isn't the true story here that the Kos is for illegal votes and always has been? If it benefits Progressives and Marxists they are for it, no matter how illegal. The law is of no consequence to the Kos crowd and truth never matters to them. Their goal is to completely control all aspects of everyone's lives, even what you eat and say. They lead the charge to try and shut down any news source not in lockstep. This seems more of the same to me.

I'd almost bet this is a simple case of an error and this gentlemen will have no problem voting if he is telling the truth.

This mudslinging is getting old and nothing is worse than a bunch of Marxists in panic mode. Only the most hardcore Progressives even read the Kos.

Three weeks ago, Bill received a letter from Broward County Florida stating “[Y]ou are not a U.S. Citizen” and therefore, ineligible to vote. He was given the option of requesting “a hearing with the Supervisor of Elections, for the purpose of providing proof that you are a United States citizens” or forfeit his right to vote.

He was given the option of requesting “a hearing with the Supervisor of Elections, for the purpose of providing proof that you are a United States citizens”

Denied what exactly?

Government Bureaucracy has always had it's flaw's no one has denied anything.

Did the guy request a hearing?

Did he?

Given how screwed up Florida and this country is I am surprised the dude didn't get a notice he was dead hell he is 91.

Way to turn this into an ad-hominem attack on the Dailykos.

Guess the other links to multiple sources for this story managed to elude your ADHD:

South Florida Democrats say Gov. Rick Scott leading “misguided” effort to purge voters from state rolls
(miamiherald.com)

Florida declares World War II veteran ineligible to vote
(morrisdailyherald.com)

Photo caption: Bill Internicola, a 91-year-old Army veteran of World War II who earned the Bronze Star and the Legion of Honor for his service, is one of the voters targeted by the state as a potential non-citizen. Internicola was ordered to prove his citizenship or lose the right to vote. He is flanked by U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Boca Raton), who called on Florida Gov. Rick Scott to stop his purge of voter rolls immediately. Rep. Deutch and U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Miramar) accused the Republican governor of using his new purge of felons, non-citizens and dead voters from the rolls as a ruse to keep Democrats like Internicola from voting. (Photo by Taimy Alvarez/Sun Sentinel/MCT)

The fact is, Rick Scott is denying this 91-year old veteran his civil rights. It should be investigated by the DoJ. So why isn't the right-wing media covering this? Apparently they support it since it's being done by one of their own. This country is becoming increasingly fascist, and it's getting to the point where you can't even point out the fascist actions of our "leaders" without being called a marxist.

The source is the Kos. The Kos is a well known propaganda site that never corrects is errors and often engages in deception through spin and out and out lies.

Do you know for a fact this was not a simple error? That entire article is a propaganda piece without anything to back it up.

Rick Scott did not deny this man the right to vote. There is an error happening here and the propagandists are jumping all over it by the way. Posting more reports of the spin at work does not change the fact this is just more political crap. Rick Scott likely never heard of this man. So is it not pure propaganda to say he personally set out to stop this one man from voting. Are we that illiterate now? That dumb and that easy to control?

I'm not a Republican by the way, but I am bothered by those who want illegals and felons to vote simply because they know they will vote for them. Like-minded run together it seems. Both Parties are corrupt and this is not news by any stretch of the imagination.

As to the Kos, it is what it is. Disgusting.

Our national elections are not games. When any side uses propaganda and deception to get their way they hurt the whole country.

What happened here is a simple error. Nothing more unless twisted to be something more.

How far do you have your head buried in the sand???

Do you really mean to claim that this is all a fabrication by one Web site, ignoring the words of the former secretary of state who openly admitted this list of purged voters was rife with errors? And do you intend to ignore the other cases pointed out in the media of legal, eligible voters also purged, in addition to this 91-year old veteran?

Or do you just plan to keep your head buried in the sand...?

florida should be thrown from the union and economic sanctions imposed on them.

and everybody born in florida or a resident of florida should automatically lose american citizenship and be barred from ever entering the united states.

then florida could proceed with its it dream of becoming a totalitarian state where voting and democracy is outlawed and cronyism, oppression of the poor, racism and corruption are the rule of law.

This is a MUCH bigger deal then you can imagine. The GOP, once again, is prepping itself to steal the election, by making sure legal, eligible, democratic voters have been "purged" just prior to the election. Wisconsin is ALSO "purging" honest, legal and eligible voters as well.

Former FLA secretary of state who compiled this list resigned over it, and Rick Scott is only ramping up his purge of eligible democrats. There's also a virtual blackout in the media over this.

Florida Not Slowing Down Voter Purge Despite Questions

As the voter purge has continued, countless examples of naturalized and other legal citizens inclusion on the list have come to light, including a World War II veteran CBS4 profiled. Critics have charged the purge unfairly targets Hispanics, African-Americans, and Democrats in the state.

Virtual Blackout From National Media On Voter Suppression In Florida

The story of a sitting governor of a state with a history of presidential election shenanigans knowingly purging his own, eligible constituents from the voter rolls is the definition of major news, and yet remarkably, in the first five months of the year, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today have published a total of zero articles about Scott’s actions.

Rick Scott is a scumbag and we sit idly by while he turns America into a fascist tyrannical state.
