Definitely!!!

About 4 times a year, I take a weekend and "Bug Out" with my gear...

I have several different packs and I try and rotate them so that I get experience with each carry system.. (The contents are very similar, just different carry systems)

It really is a lot of fun..

I simply get up, grab my gear, tell the wife I will be back in a few days and off I go..

Head into the forest and set up your camp, test your gear, make a fire and just enjoy the outdoors..

Trust me, you will not regret it

We camp out in the back yard all the time....fire pit,a whole days worth of grubs...pee and poo in the back forty.
It's good practice for the kids.....like baden powel said"be prepared"

I agree with Semp. Testing your gear and getting some practical experience in the field is probably a GREAT idea, but I'm not so sure I would do a practice bug-out scenario, LOL! That might just scare the wife and neighbors. It should be more of a family hobby than a practice session. My kids are 5 and 4 year olds, and I let them lead us on hikes and leave signs to find their way back where they came from without my help. We identify plants and bugs, we fish and camp, etc. We build fires in the back yard without matches or lighters, and we make firestarter crafts. We garden, and we fight and wrestle. Everything with a kid is a learning experience, so there is really no need to call it practice. Same goes for the wife. Don't call it practice, call it hiking or camping.
