Airport authorities were surprised when the bees showed up inside the aero bridges at around 12:30 p.m, preventing aero bridge operators from getting near the control booth for fear that they would get stung.

NAIA Media Affairs Office chief Consuelo Bungag said the bees were seen swarming the control panels of Gates 32-38.

Seeing the bees as a potential danger to both passengers and airport personnel, NAIA 2 Terminal Manager Cecilio Bobila ordered the temporary closure of the gates and just let arriving passengers use the service stairs down the ramp and use the airport buses to ferry them to the baggage claim area.

Jerome Guerra, customer service agent of Philippine Airlines at NAIA-2, said 5 domestic flights and 2 international flight of PAL were affected by the closure of the aero bridges.

Rodolfo Gabriel, a wheelchair attendant at NAIA Terminal 2, showed ABS-CBN his swollen arm due to bee strike.

Gabriel said he was attending to a passenger at the aero bridge area when a bee went inside his shirt and stung his arm. Fortunately, he was able to take out the sting and the bee that bit his arm

Strange BEEhavior !

Apparently these were honeybees.

Here`s another interesting observation from another news:

Some airport workers believe that the bees could have possibly been taken to Manila by a passenger and had escaped from a cage.
“But how can that be when at least five aerobridges were affected? That would have been possible if the bees were found in only one boarding bridge,” countered one employee.
