ATF walking guns to Mexico?

All of those guns in Mexico we're supposed to feel guilty about? Turns out quite a fewmay have been brought to Mexico by the ATF.

Well, here's what a solid source within ATF says about this story this morning:

Most of the foundation for this is coming from unnamed "ATF Insiders" so whether or not the ongoing investigation actually gets anywhere or if this is just a hoax is yet to be seen.

Still, with the CIA admittedly smuggling drugs is it really hard to believe the ATF may be smuggling guns?

Remember the Iran Contra? Opium Wars? '___' and the CIA and MK ULTRA?

If you know anything about any of these past events, than you will understand Mexico today much better.

Why does this ATF even exist anymore? Alcohol, tobacco and firearms are all legal. We don't need this agency to collect taxes on them anymore than we need an agency to collect taxes on any other goods and services.
Why can't regular law enforcement handle any cases with breaking of laws involving said goods? They use over a billion dollars now to regulate that which is legal?

The ATF provides a valuable service collecting up firearms and selling them to Mexican cartels.

I shudder to think of a world without them.

Yes, that is the most likely answer here, muzzleflash. TPTB are attempting to spark an internal guerrilla war with the cartels. Let the little brown people fight them mentality, you know, like in many other nations Corp. U.S. has taken over and exploited in recent years. Also, Mexico is a buffer zone with Nicaragua and Venezuela. To TPTB Mexico would be a strategic target, not to mention war production would surely go up, and new weapons systems could be tested in wartime conditions. And then there is the Minerals...

Although most might consider that scenario a bit far-fetched others suggest a similar version is indeed what is brewing.

In the past few years Mexico has been experiencing increasing violence particularly in the border regions. May suggest it stems from the policies of Mexican President Felipe Calderón who took office at the end of 2006 after a very tight election where his opponent, the very popular PRD candidtate Andrés Manuel López Obregón was initially announced winner. The election was contested, recounted, and announcement delayed about two weeks, and Calderón emerged winner. Almost immediately he stepped up War On Drugs efforts favorable to US policies which began a new wave of violence across the country.

Current newscasts suggest the above mentioned 15,000 deaths now number closer to 30,000 to include 2010 totals.

There has been an increase in grumbling among US populations in recent times with more suggesting US military involvement in Mexico to stem any number of objectionable activities. To me this suggests word-of-mouth campaigns to stir up feelings of dissatisfaction and increase a demand for government action be taken against their southern neighbor.

It just seems to me there is something afoot. Thanks to the OP for bringing this forward. We need to keep a close watch for where public opinion is being swayed and for what reasons.
