Understandably alarmed — and probably more than a little disgusted — by the presence of uninvited armed strangers in her home, Lona ordered them to leave. This directive, issued by a fragile female octogenarian confined to a hospital-style bed and tethered to an oxygen tank, was interpreted as “aggressive” behavior by Officer Thomas Duran, who ordered one of his associates : “Taser her!”

Hmm! The reason given does not equate to the action done, in my own opinion. I doubt the old lady could do any kind of aggressive behavior towards them, other than words, and words certainly don't hurt.

I feel very bad for the old lady, and I hope she is okay.

Okay, this story has absolutely NO MERIT. Given the source and the completely insane story, I simply can not believe it is true.

This would NEVER happen...except in someones dillusional imagination.

You underestimate the intelligence or I should say lack thereof, of the enforcement arm of retarded bureaucratic idiots!

Should have gotten her three times just fro the simple fact that she had the audacity to not get out of her bed and obey what she was told. So much disrespect for our LEOs today i just dont know if i can take it anymore.

Okay, so did you read the link you just provided? The police report reads quite a bit differently than the one from 'Hollywood on Crack".

I still find it hard to believe that they would find it necessary to tase such an elderly person and I think they will have a hard time defending the action, BUT.....the first article you provided was obviously hyped up to make a better read.

From what I gather, the police went in, because the woman was weilding a knife and threatening to kill anyone who tried to help her.

Her son had called for help for her, it sounds like she needed it. Perhaps the police at the time thought that by tasing her it would subdue her enough that they could get the knife and get control of her without hurting her.

People have a big misconception of what tasers do. No, I am not a cop, but I work with law enforcement and I have seen many people tased. It is not as violent as mainstream would like you to believe, and once it is over, its done, usually with no ill effects. Being pepper sprayed is MUCH, MUCH worse. I have seen several situations where there was a mentally ill patient that was fighting and threatening staff and police ended up tasing them to get control WITHOUT harming them. Anytime the police go hands-on with someone who is fighting, there is a huge potential for injury to everyone involved.

Especially when there is a weapon involved. Now, it's easy to say that this was just a little old lady....but you put a weapon in anybody's hand, no matter how old they are, especially if they are crazy and you have a legitimate threat.

Having said all of that, I am not condoning the actions....it seems extreme for a 86 year old bed-ridden woman, no matter what. BUT...people need to realize the reasons behind the mentality there. We were not there, we have no idea what was going on and obviously someone felt that that was the best way to get control of her without hurting her, not because they are just these wild, out of control cops looking to beat up an old woman.

Actually, if you read the article correctly, he called 911 because he couldn't get her to take her medication. It was only after 10 police officers forced their way into her home that she started threatening anybody. I am sure an elderly woman like this would be VERY confused and frightened if she saw 10 officers charging in her home and treating her like a criminal.

I think you are selectively creating a story-line based on the 'drama' outlined in the 'Hollywood on Crack' article. (that name says it all)

Truth is, neither one of us knows how it all played out.

I just wanted to point out that while some of you like to think the police go looking to beat up an old lady, I prefer to believe that they were trying to control her while causing the least amount of harm. If you have someone with a knife threatening to kill themselves/others, you have very little time to make a decision. Sometimes it is the wrong one....we really don't know here.

I'm done here. It's like trying to make a hole in a bathtub of water with a bucket
