CHICAGO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chrysler has told a bankruptcy court it plans to eliminate 789 of its dealers nationwide as part of a government mandated effort to restructure its failing business, it is reported here Thursday.

In a document filed in federal bankruptcy court in New York, the company posted names of the dealers that have been targeted. They include Currie Motors of Forest Park, Ed Napleton Dodge in Westmont, Arlington Chrysler and Jeep Dodge.

The automaker now has about 3,200 dealers across the United States. It wants to have stronger, more profitable dealers with better facilities. Chrysler spokeswoman Kathy Graham was quoted as saying that the company will notify specific dealers before commenting publicly.

Not only Chrysler but General Motors:

Chrysler dealerships are not the only ones scheduled to get bad news this week. It is reported that General Motors Corp., the biggest U.S. auto maker, is notifying 1,100 dealers that it will not renew their franchise agreements when they expire at the end of September of 2010.

This is the result of TARP where Obama propped up businesses arbitrarily rather than letting them go into bankruptcy and letting natural processes occur.

Bankruptcy for Chrysler and General Motors would have been much better for both the companies and the government!

Obama, however, wanted to save the unions at the taxpayer's expense. Now the 20 billion dollar unfunded union retirement fund will be funded by the taxpayers!

This article is from last year. You may have already known that, but I just wanted to state it for those who do not know and think that this is breaking news. Carry on.

FYI Obama was sworn in on Jan 20th last year, he was only president for less than 4 months at the time of this article, less than that at the time of this decision.
