Confrontation between student and professor at Portland State University raises questions about school security, guns on campus

www.oregonlive.com

Bucharest's presentation marked a pivotal moment in a drama that now threatens to scrub the career of a beloved professor and sully the reputation of a promising student leader.

The climactic event came in the closing moments of class Jan. 14, when Hall denounced Bucharest as a government informant and killer. He then reported to school police that he suspected Bucharest of carrying a gun on campus. The professor also sent a letter to the head of Oregon's FBI asking whether the bureau was bankrolling Bucharest as an agent provocateur.

Student at local university accused of being an 'agent provocateur' and professor has been suspended with pay!

Wow,

Hall's most ardent supporters have declared his public scolding of Bucharest a heroic act. They say the professor was only trying to protect students and himself from a combat veteran who seemed to be suffering post-traumatic stress disorder.

What is going on here? I wonder if the student was really a threat to the school, or if the professor was just trying to cover his arse?

Can't make this stuff up..... All of society is so incredibly paranoid and on-edge right now.

I don't know what conclusions can be drawn from Mr. Hall's denunciation of his student, but it certainly made for a most interesting read ! I would've liked very much to be a fly on the wall in that class.

Thank you for letting others see this story.

Hey everybody!

Thanks Skadi for linking the origional thread on this.

The oregonlive/oregonian article is extremely off base(in the Oregonian? imagine that-a biased story...who woulda thunk it) as far as how they report it, but there are links to the .PDF files of some very interesting interactions between Hall, Bucharest and the PSU administration.
