Dalai Lama: Tibetans 'suffering' under China

news.yahoo.com

DHARMSALA, India – Life for Tibetans under Chinese rule has been "hell on earth," the Dalai Lama said Tuesday, attacking Beijing in a speech to mark 50 years since the failed uprising that forced him into exile.

The unusually harsh rhetoric from the Nobel Peace laureate, who accused the Chinese government of treating his people "like criminals deserving to be put to death," highlighted the widening gulf between the two sides since last year when violence engulfed the region and talks broke down.

"These 50 years have brought untold suffering to the land and people of Tibet," the 73-year-old Buddhist spiritual leader told some 2,000 Tibetan exiles gathered to commemorate the 1959 rebellion.

Most of the articles I see must be jokes...

Buddhism is a family of beliefs and practices considered by most to be a religion[1][2]and is based on the teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as "The Buddha" (the Awakened One), who was born in what is today Nepal.[3][4] He lived and taught in the northeastern region of the Indian subcontinent and likely died around 400 BCE.[5]

Buddhists recognize him as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end their suffering by understanding the true nature of phenomena, thereby escaping the cycle of suffering and rebirth (saṃsāra), that is, achieving Nirvana. Among the methods various schools of Buddhism apply towards this goal are: ethical conduct and altruistic behaviour, devotional practices, ceremonies and the invocation of bodhisattvas, renunciation of worldly matters, meditation, physical exercises, study, and the cultivation of wisdom.

A beloved friend of mine , a Buddist Llama was tortured and hung by his thumbs for 3 years under socialist china. You heard me , by his thumbs for 3 years while being tortured even greater if that is possible.

Still he is so beautiful and aware, awake, and majic simply happens in his presence. He forgave them, he still to this day is so gentle and filled with true light and love. He respects all Masters, all paths, all religions.

I am so sorry and so upset about this invasion, I can barely function.

It defies comprehension why these people are so repressed and abused. It's like the Palestinians, but without the Zionists' rationale.

Tragically, we will likely do nothing meaningful to address this embarrassing disconnect with the notion of 'humanity'. I wonder if the UN will talk about this?

Huck... for starters... a star & flag for you.

You & I have, within the forum of A.T.S. engaged in a bit of lively debate a few times. Yet I am pleased to say I can celebrate that we share a "common interest" in regards to speaking up concerning the ongoing atrocities in Tibet.

I sincerely hope that, in your OP when you mention that...

...that you are referring to the fact that the deplorable inaction of the myriadic "slough-crew" of national leaders upon this earth in regards to Chinese barbarism within Tibet. This can stand as nothing short of a collective disgrace for civilized humanity.

The Tibetan culture is one which (as far as I can discern) has done nothing other than place a emphasis ( for humanity) on the pursuit of altruism & collective goodwill.

Regardless of my views concerning the spectrum of political nuances, I have always felt strongly compelled from within to speak out (at the very least) when I perceive the perpetration of acts of brutish cruelty on the helpless.

When Tibet wins we ALL win.....
