There is a report in this weeks Flight magazine that following HAL's decision to decouple the Tejas and Kaveri programmes due to issues with the engine one proposal that has been made id to equip the Tejas with Eurojet's TVC model of the EJ200.

Among the benefits are obviously improved agility, but also a 20% shorter take off. The engine has naturally also been proposed for the Typhoon as a refit and tranche 3 option with benefits there including a lower life cycle cost by giving an average 3-4% lower fuel burn per mission by avoiding the need for drag inducing aerodynamic trim changes at high speeds.

This engine might also power India's Typhoons, should they select it, and the two orders combined would justify local manufacture of the engine. Typhoon software already incorporates TVC flight controls so any switch to the engine is quite straight forward.

In your opinion will this have any significant bearing on the selection of the typhoon?

It seems like good news to me, has to give the typhoon an advantage

It may well do. The Kaveri is fraught with problems but India is determined to get it right and produce an indegenous fighter engine. Local production of one of the most advanced fighter engines around can only help in this regard.
