Nice!!! Time well spent IMO!!!

Like the more well-known time adjustment, the leap year, a "leap second" is tacked on to clocks every so often to keep them correct.

Earth's trip around the sun — our year with all its seasons — is about 365.2422 days long, which we round to 365 to keep things simpler. But every four years, we add 0.2422 x 4 days (that's about one day) at the end of the month of February (extending it from 28 to 29 days) to fix the calendar.

Likewise, a "leap second" is added on to our clocks every so often to keep them in synch with the somewhat unpredictable nature of our planet's rotation, the roughly 24-hour whirl that brings the sun into the sky each morning.

Historically, time was based on the mean rotation of the Earth relative to celestial bodies and the second was defined from this frame of reference. But the invention of atomic clocks brought about a definition of a second that is independent of the Earth's rotation and based on a regular signal emitted by electrons changing energy state within an atom.

In 1970, an international agreement established two timescales: one based on the rotation of the Earth and one based on atomic time.

Seems a bit werid to me that they would add on 1 sec. I mean really whats the point?
Besides all that science stuff that they are saying here... Hmmmm

Personally, I think it should be a full minute. All my digital clocks that are set by satellite seem to be off by a minute or even two. They are a minute or two ahead.

Are you saying this is because the Earth's rotation is screwed up? I think there is a conspiracy here, no? Maybe something done by man caused Earth to screw up it's rotation. Maybe it will get worse.

What's the name of that place that recently smashed particles together? Some thought it would create a blackhole and/or destroy the Earth another way, etc. Maybe it's happening slower than people thought?

CERN. Is that the place? All I know is, I want my minutes back.

And yeah personally I think something is afoot here..
I mean I was getting a little worried over that new toy that came out Helmut hero!!! Talking about getting arrested in your own home.
But then again Im normally paranoid! But Im willing to admit that

Edit-spelling..

Maybe, I'll jump up and down, just enough to get the Earth back on its normal 'wobble'. Other than that, take a deep breath. He!

Well I was thinking of what to do with my first extra second...(???) But in retrospect, I realized that I just wasted precious few seconds thinking about my second. So thanks, Zysin. You just made MY 2008 year 13.27 seconds shorter...

I guess I'll count down from 11 instead of 10 on New Years Eve.

Generally, I dont stay up the night enjoying the celebrations and ill go to bed at nine itself, and so basically, it will go unnoticed by me and basically it is not of significance for us, only for supercomputers and satellites.

SO is this every were or does this only come into play with Daylight savings?

I guess I only have time to take a breath.

I'll use that extra second to finish my plan to conquer the Earth! I will of course ensure that Pinky is nowhere around as I plot. The extra time will afford me just that much extra plotting space to allocate what I will do concerning those pesky Hero Infestations that destroyed my lair last time.

Thank goodness for escape capsules and a large amount of minions I say.
