Hi all,

I have seen a lot of unusual activty out to sea over the last few years here in Sydney, although it's usually too far away to get any decent movie shots.

Here's an attempt I made back in '04 lying on the sand at Palm Beach using a telescope/tripod attached to the front of my Hitachi DV camera. I guess the magnification would be around 2000mm....

Thanks for your response. I have managed to get some still pics in the past, so here's a filtered image of the same kind of activity, and the object does not appear to have wings or tail section...chris

Interesting. With the dump (I understand the RAAF pilots call it a "zippo"), the fuel doesn't ignite until it's a few meters behind the plane. Perhaps due to the brightness of the flame and the distance from the camera, the aircraft fades into the darkness. In the video I linked the action is a lot closer than in yours.
