A big problem will be the difficulty to service the third engine. it will require a lot more time to reach unmount and put back on. Airlines wont like
that since it will obviously increase the down time of the aircraft.
That was one of the reasons the MD-11 proved unpopular the difficult to reach the third engine. I see this design not as competition with twins but
rather to attack the quad engine market.
This could be a larger than the A350 aircraft that will fill the gap between the A350-1000 (A340-600) and the A380
remember Boeing showed a Blended WING WITH 3 ENGINES before...
