That was a long post but I decided to read it anyway and it was interesting. However! Hawaii was invaded? It wasn't a nation there, it was basically Indians but in the Ocean. CSA was however a nation that the USA invaded.

I get a lot of crap when Im among Yankees. I was in upper NY State recently, people pretended that they didn't understand me. And they looked at me funny like if I was an Alien. Kept asking me why I have a confederate flag in my truck, and asked why I hated black people? They assume that I'm stupid which I'm not! I'm studying to be a nurse, and no I'm not gay.
I want a job where I wont be replaced by a Chinese man. Such as a factory worker or engineer even.

Maybe because your conservative religious wackos who don't know the meaning of separation of church and state. Your holding our country back maybe it would be best that you separate so you'll stop influencing our government.

Yes, "Indians in the ocean" is a good way of looking at it. Just like the American native tribes, the Kingdom of Hawai'i was legally recognized as a sovereign body with which the United States - both before and after secession - engaged in diplomacy and treated with. Please, read some history involving the coup against Queen Liliuokalani by British sugar growers who illegally sold the islands to the United States when Britain refused to recognize their claims.

Closer to home, I want you to look at the treatment of the Tsalagi by the people of Georgia. Or the treatment of the Muskogee, Chiksa and Chacta by the people of Alabama and Mississippi. All recognized nations in their own right.

I'd also like you to look into the impact the slave trade had on sovereign kingdoms of West Africa, while we're at it. The Protuguese and Dutch felt secure enough in considering these kingdoms to be nations that they opened formal trade agreements with the rulers, so they certainly qualify for nationhood as much as the CSA does.

Speaking of the slaves... I'm curious. Slaves made up about half of the people living in the seceding states. How did they vote on the matter of secession? ...Oh right, they didn't. Or more accurately, they couldn't. Effectively the states that seceded did so with unequal representation, which is about as valid as a three-dollar bill.

Now I have no doubt the Confederacy would have abandoned slavery within twenty years... How do you suppose the south would have responded to an attempted secession by the freed slaves? Say, the Gullah islands, or the Seminole parts of Florida? Southern Louisiana, perhaps? Such a move would have resulted in Confederate troops invading and repressing such an attempt, don't you think?

I doubt you have a confederate flag in your truck. I would bet you couldn't pick the flag of the confederate States of America out of a lineup. Don't worry, most "proud southerners" can't, either. Odds are you have a completely fabricated flag, created after the war, using the design of the second Confederate naval jack, and the colors of the battle flag of the Army of North Virginia. After its invention it was used as a symbol against both the northern states, and the newly-freed blacks.

If you want to avoid being interrogated about hating blacks while still showing your "heritage," might I suggest using one of the three flags that actually flew over Montgomery or Richmond, rather than a fake flag devised as a focus for revenge, later adopted wholeheartedly by the Klan and, in 1948, by pro-racist "Dixiecrats"?

And just for the record, bud... I grew up in Mobile, AL. All of my ancestors that were in the Western Hemisphere at the time were on the Confederate side - Native and white. Allow me to ask you something that, so far none of my neighbors at the time were able to answer without getting belligerent.

What, exactly, is "southern heritage" and why is it a source of pride for you?

Hell yes the occupation needs to end.

There was a recent meeting in Tennessee of secessionists groups from both the South and the North. The group from Vermont has doubled and tripled in recent years.

The Confederacy has little to do with slavery. I like how one poster says the South should get over it because "Richmond fell a long time ago" yet it is still popular opinion that the Confederacy was all about owning other human beings as property. I wonder do the same who believe this to be true stand against gun control as gun control's roots are based in Klansmen wishing to disarm blacks?

Hawaii has a very large secessionist movement. Whites are pretty much hated on the island outside of the tourist areas.

I also think it's pretty funny that a poster went off about the religious fundies and them influencing the government. I feel the same way about the hyper-liberal socialists of the Northeast and California trying to tell everyone in flyover country how they should live their lives through mass media control and political sway. Everybody loves to complain about the giant media corps. brainwashing the public but they always forget that every news program is broadcast from either LA or NY. Lands of sheltered yuppies who haven't ever lost a farm to taxes or been told they can't shoot the coyote taking their chickens because of DEP regulations.

Sounds like secession would make everyone happy. It would certainly put a smile on my face.

About that last bit, regarding taxes.

The Pacific and "Yankee" states pay most of the federal taxes in the nation. When this tax money is doled out to the states, most of it ends up in the pockets of everyone BUT the west coast and Yankee states. Curiously the places that are floated the most by other people's money - Alaska, the midwest, and the south - are were all the anti-taxation whining comes from.

Any "tax revolt" from these areas should be met with a withdrawal of federal funds. Watch 'em starve. We don't have much to worry about, really - everyone knows southerners can't shoot.

The stated reason for South Carolina's secession was, in fact, the growth of the Abolitionist movement in Washington and the fear that said movement would bear fruit. This fear was thinly disguised as concern for states rights, and Confederacy was born.

You may want to research the "Cornerstone Speech" made by C.S. vice president Alexander Stephens. which contains the lines...

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery—subordination to the superior race—is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth

The practice of slavery is also enshrined in the constitution of the Confederate States, and to pass an amendment changing it would have needed two-thirds of the states backing it.

Now I wouldn't say it was the sole reason for secession initially... But it was certainly the reason why the Appalachian states, Virginia, and Texas seceded, and was a very big and very popular reason for secession in the others.

And by all means. Secede. I support separatist movements on general principle
Good luck convincing the rest of the freeloading mulleted yutzes with "git 'er dun" T-shirts to hop off the gravy train.

Mine too!

Orson Scott Card wrote a book called "Empire", it is about a modern civil war between conservatives and liberals.

The American economy is collapsing, all jobs are moved abroad. We all saw what happened to Yugoslavia when the economy collapsed. People blamed each other like, Albanians are living on welfare et c. And those who where once a nation for hundreds of years became enemies.

A civil war is coming, and I know I will get to kill a lot of Yankees. But maybe it can be avoided by secession.

Well, you didn't address anything I brought up, but let me ask you something else, just to pass the time.

Why in the world do you think that any upcoming civil war is going to keep the Mason-Dixon boundary, that you will be facing "Yankees"?

um...i second the previous question. how do you know that it will be along the same lines?

are you unaware of the large number of liberals living in the south?

...then again, judging by your quote and previous defenses of the KKK from you... i doubt logic is part of these ideas

The same way Iraqi people are fighting. The same way the Muslims and Hindus did it. They draw up borders and cross over to their areas.

You know I'm all for states rights and the outright destruction of the fed but if you'll notice my location I guess I'm what you would call a "yankee." The only objection I have to the South is the heat. Other than that I'm on your side.

Don't shoot me!!

I wish Alaska never voted to join the united states of dependence. Then I'd have somewhere to run to. As it stands now I can just support states like New Hampshire along the Northern border in their quest to secede.

Really, I cant stand the heat. CT is too damn hot. Forget South Carolina.

I guess if the majority below the line want to secede then the minority can flee above the line. isn't that Democracy? Majority rule?

I think you missed my point. Why do you presume it will be north vs south, or reb vs. yank or whatever it is you've got going there? Different situations result in different effects.

This is not a Rambo sequel. We are not going to be seeing the same plot recycled for the next American war.
