Seriously,

Without oil, how will they survive? What can they export, or what can they do that the world needs?

They must be thinking of some type of plan for this guaranteed scenario.

Also, wouldn't you think they would try to get on the West's good side, hoping for financial aid when their Oil runs dry?

well I don't see why they (middle easterners) couldn't do what we do or did in manufacturing and so on and so forth...

However they probably won't have to look to long or hard to find a way to make a deal the ends of which will outsource thousands if not ten of thousands more American jobs due to some agreement similar to NAFTA.

Just think India or Pakistan they are successful countries yes they have large numbers of poor people but back in the the 20's and 30's so did we it is all about evolution and everything either evolves or dies off

Just my two cents

A better question would be - What will the rest of the world do when the Middle East runs out of oil?

They (at least the United Arab Emirates, and several Oil Company Owners) have been planning for this for years (and continue to do so). A big part of their planning is to focus on tourism. They are building huge tourism industry to provide an income from the richest of the rich. The Burj Al Arab, Al Faisaliah, Palm Tree Islands and World Islands are excellent examples of this.

But I suppose you're not so much worried about Dubai's economy... Your question is actually - like Skibum said - What will The World do when the Middle East runs out of oil?

The U.A.E. is now blossoming into a regional hub for the Middle East,
a role once played by Switzerland in Europe and by Hong Kong and Singapore in Asia...

source; www.ameinfo.com...

see also www.dubaiwaterfronts.com...
see more luxury towers & projects like Gemwolf listed,
& there's lots of links on the same page of other middle-eastern venues.

www.ameinfo.com also reports;

Dubai, in particular, has led the way in developing a vibrant trading hub, now combined with a large tourism sector and dynamic real estate sector...

other stuff includes Dubai Financial Centre,
Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre,
Dubai Healthcare City,
The Mall of the Emirates,
Dubai Festival Centre.
an underground terminal at Dubai airport

& hasn't Haliburton moved their HQ to the middle east with others to follow?

PS
[i seem to been wrong about Kuala Lumpur becoming a Muslim centerpiece]

They are diversifying as stated above into tourism and finacial stuff. But do the math and you'll realize their oil wont be running out any time soon.
