Ice Hockey: Scott Stevens jersey retired

During the NHL lockout, a number of future Hall of Famers ended their careers. On Friday one of these players is to be honoured.

Scott Stevens #4 jersey will be raised to the rafters and retired by the New Jersey Devils. His will be the first jersey retired by the Devils.

Stevens will be remembered for his excellent leadership abilities, and bone-crushing body checks. Throughout his career he was an excellent two-way defenseman. Stevens never won a Norris trophy (league's best defenseman), although was twice a runner-up. He was arguably the biggest reason for New Jersey's three Stanley Cups.

He is the NHL leader in games played by a defenseman (1635), and fifth highest amongest all players. He scored 196 goals, 712 assists, for 908 career points, and 2785 penalty minutes. He holds the record for most play-off games by a defenceman (233). He also won the Conn Smythe trophy (play-off MVP) in 2000.
