Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and Washington's Alexander Ovechkin. These two guys are definitly the future of hockey. The ability they both posses at the age they are is unreal. It's a two horse race for rookie of the year. Crosby could stick handle in a phone booth. He's got a great mentor in Mario Lemieux who should keep Sid on the right track. Ovechkin has shown a level of grit seldom seen in non North American players. His ability to put the puck in the net has made Washington into a team people think twice about. They both seem just dedicated to the game. Even if you guys don't think of hockey as a major sport you should take 5 minutes to check these guys out. With these two in the game, hockey could just make a comeback in the USA.

In my opinion Ovechkin is the better player. Not to take anything away from Sid. The Penguins should be getting more help next year when Ovechkin's National team linemate Evgeni Malkin joins the team. He's currently playing in the Russian Elite League. Some say he's even better.

Malkin does have alot of talent, but I would not go as far to say he is better. We can not forget the fact that Ovechkin is 20 years old, while Sid has just turned 18. Two years is a huge difference at this point in their career, Allow Sid 2 seasons to gain that extra maturity a 20 year old has over a teenager and we will see a difference. Ovechkin will score more goals consistently, but Crosby will win more cups. And that is all that matters!

Last night Ovechkin scored his 50th goal. Ovechkin, who scored his 50th goal to become just the second rookie in NHL history to reach 50 goals and 100 points. Teemu Selanne had 76 goals and 132 points for the Winnipeg Jets in 1992-93. That pretty much locks up rookie of the year honours in my book. He sure is fun to watch.
