According to a team of Japanese scientists, the hole on the Ozone layer is on the way to repairing itself..

The ozone hole over the Antarctic is likely to begin contracting in the future and might disappear by 2050 because of a reduction in the release of chlorofluorocarbons and other ozone-depleting gases, according to a team of Japanese scientists.

If these findings are accurate, what good news! I for one expected any such repair to take anything up to a few thousand years..

...If the Ozone layer can repair itself within such a short period of time, surely this gives hope for the Earth to repair itself from industrial pollution, de-forestation, land aridity etc.

IMO it's encoraging to see the regulation of CFC's has resulted in an improved atmosphere.. we must rejoice in these small victories!

Why would, if it exists, an ability for ozone to form quickly mean that other pollutants aren't damaging in the long term?
