Drfunk, thanks for the comments, I find them quite interesting, but I'm still disagreeing:

it's okay, I just think some people have a wrong view about gorbachev and how this man had to of had the hardest job in the world, at least the political one. Calling Gorbachev a 'loser' I believe is disrespectful
because I believe he has knowledge and experiences that are unique and an insight that is useful.

Sure it is disrespectful, and I meant that. I'm not arguing with you that his intentions of fixing a malfunctioning socialist system were mislead. Letting the system break down in such a catastrophic manner was a very real failure. I don't buy the "at least he tried". If I was interested in amateur politicians, I might as well become myself without putting everyone else in danger.

I find his books an excellent read and an excellent insight into what he had to go through, I recommend that any of you should pick one of them up

He never came across as a good public speaker (part of it was his Southern accent but also just the flow of logic and vocabulary weren't up to snuff), so I figure it's a work of ghost writers.

I'm pretty sure the US is against having another nation have the same sort of verification systems on its weapons programs that it wishes to place on other nations. If they've got nothing to hide, I believe they should do it and set a moral example to other nations.

Well, the US has no interest in that.

thanks for the comments.

Jesus Christ, enough of the character assassination please, its getting old and pointless.

Do people disregard what good ol' Nelson Mandela says because he's a convicted terrorist that spent most of his life in prison? Do people disregard Abe Lincoln because he's on the record as saying that if allowing slavery would unite the nation he'd consider it? Do people disregard Reagan because of the Iran Contra farce? Do people disregard JFK for the Bay of Pigs farce?

Hell, an admitted Hitler Youth and WW2 German Soldier was just elected Pope, should we disregard him?

What Gorbachev is saying about America is completely spot on. If Hitler said the sky was blue would you debunk the fact just because of his character?

Sorry. I probably just have a beef with the guy because I'm Russian born.

Hmm... Maybe some do. Personally, Malcolm X had made a few atrociuos statements regarding "death to white people" that make me question anything else that came from him. It's called basic credibility and questioning the motive.

He actually got some bad rap for this in certain history books.

Do people disregard Reagan because of the Iran Contra farce?

Again, some do. There is plenty of material in the web. I remember one phrase from a historian, which said, "Ronald Reagan was a mean man".

Hell, an admitted Hitler Youth and WW2 German Soldier was just elected Pope, should we disregard him?

I doubt that he hurt anybody, and he certainly didn't contribute to the biggest socio-economic collapse in history, and a rape of a nation. Gorby did.

What Gorbachev is saying about America is completely spot on.

That's so much like Gorby it makes me cry. Say something like that and feel important. Still playing out this illusion.

BtW I inadvertantly sneaked into his birthday party years ago in Manhattan, at the "Russian Tea Room". Obviously, the security was way lax
