An unidentified group has apparently taken a U.S. contractor hostage in Iraq. Al-Jazeera aired a video of him surrounded by masked captors today.

A US hostage in Iraq has appeared on a video tape urging his government to "open a dialogue with the Iraqi resistance" to save his life.

The hostage is believed to be Jeffrey Ake, a subcontractor who went missing on Monday, say US officials.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said they were working "very, very hard" to secure his release but they would not negotiate with his captors.

I find it strange that the group hasn't identified itself yet, and is using the hostage to pressure for "open dialogue".

The hostage was apparently captured during an assault on a construction site in Taji, north of Baghdad.

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice claims to be working "very, very hard" to secure his release, but asserts that the U.S. will not negotiate with terrorists, suggesting that there is some sort of operation underway to find and rescue this hostage.

stop running these tapes on t.v. it gives the bad guys more power than they really need.this is a military issue and should be handled as such.i wish the media would get the message.a hunger for t.v ratings kills people.
