Abortion is a medical procedure. Macron of France wants this medical procedure to be guaranteed as a right in France. There is an element in France that wants a whole new constitution, but Macron wants to keep the old one and make changes. This is one of the changes. France used to be extremely Catholic and religious but it has become increasingly secular. I find making a medical procedure a constitutional right to be odd. But it's their country so they can do as they wish.

French President Wants Right to Abortion Added to Constitution

In his speech for the 65th anniversary of the French Constitution, President Emmanuel Macron called for abortion to be included “as soon as possible” in the country’s Magna Carta.

In his words before the Constitutional Council, the French president on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of adopting a new constitution, as called for by several political groups, especially on the left, but said he is in favor of introducing some changes, such as abortion.

France decriminalized abortion in 1975 and in 2022 the gestational stage was extended to 14 weeks of pregnancy.

However, the president’s intention is for abortion to be protected by the Magna Carta, as expressed on March 8 during a speech for International Women’s Day.

“I want the force of this message to help us change our Constitution to enshrine the freedom of women to have recourse to the voluntary interruption of pregnancy,” Macron said at the Palace of Justice in Paris.

In November 2022, the National Assembly approved including abortion as a “right.” However, in February the Senate modified the proposal to make it like a “freedom.” Therefore, both chambers will have to come to an agreement.

I'm tired of the argument, myself.
Let people do what they want. Putting it in the constitution ends the argument over if you can, shifting the focus to of you should.

I think if you're going to argue about it, that's a better place to start

People can’t agree wether or not die hard is a Christmas movie so I don’t see the abortion issue being resolved any time soon.

What about the people that are most affected? The babies still in their mother's womb?

Rights.

Better to have them and not need them, then to need them and not have them.

He has just numbered his day's.

God is slow but sure.

I am against Abortion for lifestyle choice but do accept there are circumstance were it is a tragic unavoidability but if people could see the horror of how many baby's are needlessly killed just because they were inconvenient to some selfish person life style choice, well it is horrific to say the least but God does see and he Sees this moron in France.

Leave him to God.

This is simply another rage arrow in the quiver of division of those who are committed to causing strife and disunity between fellow humans.

I'm not against abortion totally but to add it to the constitution is senseless. Next step will be the government deciding when and who must abort even if the mother doesn't want to. Afterall, it's in the constitution.
