State Department Bankrolls Group Secretly Blacklisting Conservative Media

So, now we have confirmed that our Government is actively funding 3rd party organizations to blacklist / shut out advertising to conservative media. I would think this is a blatant 1st Amendment violation as the US government is not supposed to do things like this. Many leftist here have said the tech companies are independent and can ban whoever they want but that is not true when being instructed to by Government agencies and government agencies cannot bankroll so called independent companies to do their bidding.

Deep State indeed.

The Department of State has funded a deep-pocketed "disinformation" tracking group that is secretly blacklisting and trying to defund conservative media, likely costing the news organizations vital advertising dollars, the Washington Examiner can confirm.


The Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofit groups, is feeding blacklists to ad companies with the intent of defunding and shutting down websites peddling alleged "disinformation," the Washington Examiner reported . This same "disinformation" group has received $330,000 from two State Department-backed entities linked to the highest levels of government, raising concerns from First Amendment lawyers and members of Congress.

My colleague Gabe Kaminsky has done a fantastic job of documenting how an international nongovernmental organization with two United States-affiliated nonprofit organizations, the Global Disinformation Index, has created a blacklist of conservative websites, including the Washington Examiner, that it uses to pressure advertisers to stop advertising on those sites.

The sole purpose of this organization, according to its website, is to "remove the financial incentive" to create "disinformation" by putting conservative news organizations out of business.

The GDI has completely abandoned any distinction between true and false. All that matters for the GDI is that a piece of information contradicts the preferred liberal narrative. Even perfectly true information — if it makes liberals uncomfortable, then it is “disinformation,” according to the GDI.
