Several have been shot down already. Whether they "allowed" themselves to be "shot down,: i.e.: Were they a "gift," is still open to speculation. That they are "extra terrestrial" is also an open question. The UFO literature is full of information on these topics.

Yup, that’s what a lot of us are thinking too. Send up a bunch old weather balloons with a bunch of metal chaff hanging, during the super bowl. That will guarantee a bunch of pissed off service men.

They wish it was only $50M. But they were going to have to fly the aircraft anyway, and flight costs for the year are already paid.

Ummm...that's just the missile...if you include everything else involved...the F22 fuel ...flight...and maintenance costs per flight...I'm sure we're well over a million per balloon...or cylinder...

Not to mention the tasking for NORAD...probably in the multiple millions...per...

Also to include the U2 shadowing during the entire first balloon...the fuel...flight...and maintenance costs...


We're probably closing in on tens of millions of dollars spent right about now...

Except that all of those aircraft were going to get flight time regardless. Their yearly flight schedule was paid for at the start of the fiscal year. They simply redirected their mission for that particular day. The ones that might not have down that day will simply have a day removed from their schedule and that mission moved to another aircraft.

No. They can't shoot upward, and the C-130 ceiling is 28,000 feet. Nowhere near high enough to hit something even as low as 34-35,000 let alone higher.
