Regarding keeping them alive, just go for it. Feed them pods, but also offer foods like masstick etc. Biota lists several good choices. I've had no issue with mandarin dragonets eating, but I have heard that the green spotted ones are the most cooperative out of the dragonet types. (This is the OP, but I got locked out of my account)
