in the late '50s and definitely pre 1960 (when world hope was focused on JFK, after the dismal decline of Prez Ike's 'Atoms for Peace'

i crafted stories, not of Viral pandemics, but rather tinkering with the invisible unknowns which were nolecular arrays which determined human blueprints (later came DNA & the structure of DNA helix... in my reality the spiritual component was the Apex and human struggling to create a Superman was the ultimate Blaspheme to throw God made men to the depths of degradation (AKA; ultimate Abomination-of-Desolation)

Check out the show Survivors on Prime, if you have it. Some significant differences from your dream but very similar in many ways too. It is 20 years old, I think? From the BBC. Just watched it. It was very good but eerily like Covid... with variants, an accidental Chinese release, and all!
