Would your local police force recognize a zombie outbreak if they saw one?

We already have it here. It's called opiod addiction. People nodding in and out while walking, driving, talking, etc. So our officers would probably just assume they are addicts and toss some narcan at 'em.

Yeah, but being bitten by one just means that you need a tetanus shot, it doesn't turn you into the undead.

At least no around here it doesn't. Maybe you're drugs are worse than ours.

I'm pretty sure that a half competent hunter with a long gun could take out as many zombies as he had rounds. Slow moving targets are like shooting fish in a barrel.

But what if they are fast zombies though? Train to Busan springs to mind. But that kind of energy got to come from somewhere.

I'd rather be bitten by a zombie than one of the homeless freaks that heavily populate Anchorage. Tetanus? That would be a miracle, around here the homeless mostly have viral diseases without cures like Hep C, TB, and the AIDS.

the short realistic truthful answer is at first... NO THEY WOULD NOT.

common who in their right mind would ever (usually ) logically see them as zombies , much less entertain the idea.
especially in the first stages of infection.
when most would realistically look like someone wacked out on drugs. Remember the man who was on "bath salts" eating another persons FACE?

No doubt some random (even a few) would start to question if they may be zombies.. but if they said anything they at best be laughed at. At worst given a "few days off" to see a shrink.

by the time the evidence was acknowledged either total anarchy would be happening (which then the police would cease to be effective) or the next stage would be government coverup to "prevent panic".
to which a ticking time bomb of anarchy is gonna (not if) go off..

now a REALLY GOOD SOURCE that answers the OP question can be found in max brooks book "world war Z" (note the BOOK NOT THE ABOMINATION OF A MOVIE that just shares the name) .

for it being fiction the sequence of events, how its handles by all parties , the beginning, middle and end is shown in a scary real world way.

so scary that you could substitute any number of pandemics, NBC terrorism, or natural cataclysm and the storyline would still play out in real world.
