Senate approves $2.6 trillion budget

WASHINGTON - The Senate delivered a slap at President Bush and its own Republican leaders Thursday by passing a $2.6 trillion budget erasing his plans for cutting Medicaid, community development and school aid.

Before its 51-49 approval of the budget, the Senate, in a surprise, voted to practically double the budget’s tax cuts to $134 billion over the next five years. That is even more than Bush and the more conservative House have sought.

This is a surprise, more than what the Presidient asked for.

“The courage simply isn’t here,” said Senate Budget Committee Chairman Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who said benefit savings were needed to avoid passing unbearably high debts to younger generations.

This is our political leaders at work. They must have missed Greenspans testimoney the other day about his concernes for the amount of the Federal spending deficit.
