Managing director of the IMF ,Kristalina Georgieva , has today suggested that due to the Corona virus pandemic UK / EU trade talks should be extended beyond the December 2020 deadline , Ms Georgieva , a former vice-president of the European Commission took over the IMF following Christine Lagarde's departure to head up the European Central Bank ... YEAH jobs for the boys / girls.

Luckily for us Boris Johnson's government put our December departure into law so in the event of a no deal with the EU we will enter a period of WTO trade rules until a deal is agreed , the British government has said there is no change to that plan.

Managing director Kristalina Georgieva, when asked what she thought about the prospect of no trade deal this year and no extension to talks, told the BBC that because of the "unprecedented uncertainty" arising from the pandemic, it would be "wise not to add more on top of it".

"I really hope that all policymakers everywhere would be thinking about [reducing uncertainty]. It is tough as it is, let's not make it any tougher," she said.

Asked specifically if she would advise an extension to trade talks, Ms Georgieva said: "My advice would be to seek ways in which this element of uncertainty is reduced in the interests of everybody, the UK, the EU, and the whole world."

With the EU facing an uncertain future and almost certain recession the time has never been better to get the deal we need and leave the European Union to their fate , in December we need to cast off and head for open water before we too are dragged down by the sinking EU.

You do know what the IMF is? Of course this is their advice, the international monetary fund, you know if they'd say anything different they wouldn't do what they were founded for.

The OBR is saying at least 35% of the economy withers away due to corona, almost half of UK trade is with the EU, you could say byebye to 60% or more of your economy for what?
Being stubborn? Being suicidal? Because you're essentially already out and there's absolutely no downside to do this calm and orderly except that it takes maybe a month longer.
And with your BJ out of order, don't you think it might be...smart?

Regardless of BoJo's current situation the apparatus is in place to conduct trade talks , as mentioned in the link trade negotiations are scheduled by video conference.

We've had nearly 4 years of delay and uncertainty , I would suggest that has done more harm to our economy and any further delay would just add to that.
The EU have a choice , either conduct serious talks or accept the inevitable , WTO trade rules and more harm to the faltering EU economy for the foreseeable future , as a country who imports more than it exports from the EU they will miss us more than we will miss them as they head for recession.

Sure if you say so. I'm just asking, do what you want.

Just one minor issue with that logic: you'd have to find a market that can actually afford buying expensive UK exports. Especially since 41% are services. And it's not like all the other EU countries are incapable of doing that themselves it just means more high paying jobs have to be created. Oh no!?

What I'd like you know is what you base your imperiousness on?

It's not the EU it's the world that's heading for recession.

Just the EU having a panic attack and asking their mates to start chucking in grenades.

What the EU needs to do is concede that free trade is good and that a trade deal with a very close friend and ally is possible, if based around the UK proposals. It's not possible if the EU want to persist with their intentions to have the UK as a vassal state, as per their proposals.

Not yet but the EU would like to make us a Vassal hence their insistence on us adhering to customs union rules and remaining subject to EU court rulings , they also want continued unfettered access to our fisheries.
