If this owner of a sailing company said he would not sail that route without 'at least' three experienced sailors, why would anyone think these two inexperienced(?) women would be able to do it without a hitch?

It's not about the hitch - it's the nonsense they've been putting out since.

When it was first reported the story seemed full of improbable detail like the noodling around for almost 6 months without making landfall in a boat that was essentially seaworthy, the sharks persistently attacking their vessel (Jaws style), not being able to contact home because a mobile phone fell over board on the first day (only one phone between two?), her mother moving house and changing her phone number during the five months (whilst anxiously awaiting news of her lost daughter?).

Interesting to watch it unravel.

The Coast Guard also made contact with a vessel called the Sea Nymph off of Tahiti in June, and spoke with the captain who said they were not in distress and expected to make landfall the next day. This was after the storms that allegedly damaged their engine and their mast and sails—and when the women claimed to be attempting to return to Hawaii with a crippled boat.

That is not how I see it at all. It was an adventure, albeit ill-prepared and "whow knows" immersed in romanticism. I can't speak for these two women, and neither can anyone of us here.

^^Plugging the Chinese into Google translate yielded some mildly amusing translation results.
Don't see why it was necessary to have a broken record hissy fit, though.

Also, for those following these 2 still, did I miss/forget about this Taiwanese boat claim? Don't recall reading that before.

The bit that gets me is that they didn't want to use their emergency beacon because they wanted to be "in the Grace of God".

If you wanted this, why get an emergency beacon in the first place?
